Job purpose
In addition to fulfilling all tasks essential for successful farming as part of a team, the Coordinator will be responsible for developing, leading, and executing various aspects of Community Farm engagement. This includes enhancing volunteer support, providing training, and bolstering capacity at the farm and pantry. The Coordinator will also work on expanding partnerships and implementing partner programming at the Farm, while serving as a relationship steward for both the Farm and the organization as a whole.
Duties and responsibilities
- Demonstrates high performance and operational excellence on a daily basis.
- Leads group tours and volunteer work sessions to ensure positive experiences.
- Assists in enhancing farm capacity for volunteer and partner recruitment, engagement, and retention, both on-site and online. Contributes to Farm content creation, fostering an online Farm presence.
- Participates in the capture, creation, and storage of Farm media, including pictures, flyers, and videos, adhering to organizational practices and vision.
- Supports Volunteer Management Systems, including volunteer onboarding and best practice training.
- Contributes to planning and leading field trips, workshops, or educational experiences, with a focus on sustainable agriculture, local food systems, or environmental stewardship. Also assists in planning and executing parties, meetings, and special events.
- Undertakes all farm duties, encompassing planting, tending, harvesting, harvest transport, landscaping, projects, and program administration. Proactively learns about regenerative farming and adheres to GAPs (good agricultural practices), sharing and reinforcing these practices with others.
- Adopts a human-centered, relational model of service delivery, maintaining a high standard of relationship and program building for clients, volunteers, partners, and the community.
- Conducts intentional and thoughtful communication, scheduling, feedback, and follow-up.
- Bridges engagement efforts between the farm and pantry, fostering support, collaboration, and cohesion.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid driver's license and personal transportation.
- Encouragement for candidates pursuing a career in horticulture to apply. While high agricultural knowledge and educational skills are desirable, they are not mandatory. At a minimum, candidates should be willing to learn quickly and handle the challenging physical and mental aspects of farm operation, including working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Proficiency in, or the ability to be trained to operate in, a Microsoft 365 environment.
- Desire for a candidate to take ownership of sustained, strategic building for a successful regional program within a home setting. Non-profit work/volunteer experience and trauma-informed care experience are preferred.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills, coupled with a passion for building relationships, listening to people's needs, and delivering quality services. The ability to make others feel welcome and comfortable during times of uncertainty or difficulty is essential.
- Capability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers, clients, and visitors, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and the ability to relate effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse client population. Strong teamwork skills are a must.
- Punctuality, the ability to work independently, and high productivity with minimal supervision. Adaptability to changing tasks and priorities is crucial.
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Working conditions
- Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. weekly.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 lbs.
