How You Will Contribute

The Coordinator of Educator Engagement facilitates and supports the integration of visual arts into K-12 classroom instruction by connecting classroom educators and pre-service teachers with PMA collections and resources, the work of museum educators, and arts-integrated teaching strategies.

 

In collaboration with the Associate Director of Student and Educator Engagement (SEE), the Coordinator is responsible for developing and being a lead teacher for professional development programs and partnerships that encourage and support classroom teachers of all subject areas and teacher education students and faculty from area colleges to use the museum’s collections and the visual arts as rich resources for teaching and learning.

 

The Coordinator is also responsible for developing arts integrated lessons and teaching resources for publication on the museum’s website and in print. Within Student ad Educator Engagement, they are a go-to content expert around arts integration, teacher education and student learning and a relationship builder with K-12 teachers and pre-service education programs at colleges and universities.

 

In addition to this role, the Coordinator is part of a team of museum educators providing K – 12th grade students with high-quality, creative opportunities to engage with the museum’s collections and make meaningful, developmentally appropriate connections to classroom learning through school group gallery lessons.

 

Specifically, you will:

  • Collaborate with other SEE Educators to develop and lead Kindergarten – 12th grade professional development workshops and courses for teachers both at the PMA and in schools
  • Write teacher resources focused on the museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions. Publication of a monthly e-newsletter for teachers that includes developing a new arts integrated resource each month
  • Lead workshops for pre-service teachers brought by their professors and teacher groups
  • Develop new relationships and maintain and grow strong relationships with present partners; including school district administration and higher education faculty to promote the PMA as a resource
  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons for K -12th grade students with the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibits and at partnership schools
  • Engage with and lead projects with other education organizations as needed
  • Represent and extend the museum’s work with students, teachers and museum professionals in the city, region and nationally through meetings, conferences and workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Your background and experience include:

  • BA in Art History, Museum Education or Education, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education/work experience
  • Understanding of object-based and inquiry- based teaching methodologies.
  • Experience in teaching students of all grade levels in a museum setting 
  • Experience teaching students in a school setting, especially in the School District of Philadelphia a plus
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Experience leading adults/educators in gallery discussions and in developing arts integrated lessons and curriculum
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and manage highly detailed projects and to keep several projects going at once
  • Experience working with diverse community groups and leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people, including K-12 students and their teachers, school administrators, College students and faculty and many other Museum staff

Position and Compensation Details

  • The SALARY for this position is $48,000.
  • This position is FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, and 35 hours per week.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • This position reports to the Associate Director of Student and Educator Engagement
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
    • Periodically move throughout museum departments
    • Frequent use of multiple technical equipment and applications
    • Ability to lead groups throughout the museum’s galleries
    • Ability to move 50 pounds and lift 25 pounds
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprinting required.
