Job Title: Family Services Coordinator

Department: Family and Community Well-Being (FCW)

Program: Healthy Communities

Supervisor: Healthy Communities Program Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Full-Time (M-F: 11am - 7:30pm)

Position Summary:

The Family Services Coordinator position at the Latino Center of the Midlands (LCM) is a key role in the Family and Community Well-Being department, with a strong focus on promoting community well-being through a culturally-sensitive approach. This role involves coordinating the Healthy Kids Club program, which emphasizes nutrition and physical activity for children aged 4-12, using the 5-4-3-2-1 Go! curriculum. The Coordinator also plays a pivotal role in connecting families with various community services to address their social, emotional, economic, educational, legal, basic needs, and provides assistance with interpretation. Promoting and recruiting for program activities in the community, representing LCM at events, and other responsibilities to support the department's success are integral to this role. Overall, the Family Services Coordinator is instrumental in empowering the Greater Omaha community to achieve comprehensive well-being, stability, and self-sufficiency through an array of services and support.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Healthy Communities team and program manager to support program success.
  • Schedules and assists during one-on-one consultations, group/workshop sessions, and community events.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community experts in public health, nutrition, food security, early childhood, and social/human services, including pantries and utility services.
  • Assists the program manager in providing logistical support and monthly data reports.
  • Collects and organizes reporting data within the database program system.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.
  • Assists LCM clients in completing forms, interpreting and/or translating documents, and establishing communication through the phone, email, and fax on behalf of the client.
  • Assist LCM clients in completing application forms for financial assistance, such as utility assistance through our partnership with Dollar Energy.
  • Assist LCM clients in calling United Way and/or other local organizations to assist with their immediate needs.
  • Provide direct supervision of children ages 4-12 years old.
  • Teach daily nutrition, physical activity and enrichment lessons to a group of 10-20 youth with enthusiasm using the evidence-based 5-4-3-2-1 Go! curriculum.
  • Effectively communicate with parents/guardians daily (in verbal and written form) information regarding the program that is critical to the care of their children.
  • Maintain a daily schedule in a timely manner, staying on task and completing all activities and lesson plans.
  • Coordinate Healthy Kids Club activities with outside contractors and partners.
  • Create and implement project schedules.
  • Assist in documenting project phases and creating summary reports.
  • Work with volunteers and interns.
  • Standardize operational procedures and services.
  • Collect data from clients and input into the Center's database.
  • Works in collaboration with other community groups and organizations to fulfill the program and the agency's mission.
  • Develop and implement the Parent as Teachers curriculum, with a particular focus on early childhood development, to empower parents with knowledge and skills for effective parenting.
  • Implement and facilitate parent committee meetings.
  • Conduct engaging and informative workshops that complement the curriculum, promoting parent-child bonding, and enhancing parenting capabilities.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and workshops, making necessary adjustments to meet the evolving needs of program participants and families.
  • Prepare materials and supplies in advance for daily programs.
  • Assist children during meal/snack times and oversee subsequent clean-up.
  • Ensure the site is cleaned after children depart, inspecting and returning supplies to their designated locations.
  • Maintain the site's appearance, ensuring it remains clean, safe, and conducive for activities.
  • Register new participants, record daily attendance, and submit any other required documentation.
  • Actively engage with children, aiming to foster the positive development of each individual and the group as a whole.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Bilingual Proficiency: Fluent in both spoken and written Spanish and English, enabling effective communication with a diverse community.

Experience in data collection and analysis, as well as the ability to communicate program outcomes to stakeholders. Committed to continuous improvement and evidence-based research programs.

Tracks program outcomes, such as participant attendance, program completion rates, and the impact of the program on participants' lives. Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required, or a combination of relevant education and experience. Preferred degrees include: early childhood education, public health, social work, or similar degrees.
  • Experience working directly and developing community-based interventions to improve outcomes for low-income families and communities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

CPR/First Aid Certificate; can be obtained through employer after hire. A valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required.
