Position Title: Medical Billing & Collections Specialist - Facilities
Position Summary: The Medical Billing & Collections Specialist - Facilities is responsible for the timely billing and collecting of all facility charges in accordance with established contracts. This includes all aspects of Facility Billing with particular focus on generating revenue by timely billing, making payment arrangements, securing purchase orders, collecting accounts, monitoring and pursuing delinquent accounts. The billing & collections specialist will proactively identify problems in the billing process and work with internal and external stakeholders to develop an efficient solution. Other responsibilities include maintaining current billing forms and payments received, updating electronic medical and billing records (USMON) with updated facility and supply billing, and providing regular reporting on key performance indicators.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare, review, and transmit facility bills using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing
- Review facility contracts and ensure setup is correct in billing software
- Work with facilities to ensure timely receipt of purchase orders
- Manage facility collections by following up on unpaid bills within standard billing cycle timeframe
- Check each facility payment for accuracy and document receipts in billing software
- Research and appeal denied bills from facilities and work with facilities to resolve any payment discrepancies
- Run regular accounts receivable reports via billing software
- Protect NMA operations by adhering to professional standards, facility policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission standards
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Associates Degree, and/or Medical Billing and Coding Course/Certification preferred
Experience/Training:
- 3-5 years of medical billing experience preferred
- Practice management experience preferred
- Proven collection track record preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT Coding
- Practical understanding of HIPAA and legal compliance
- Basic computer skills including Excel, Word, Practice Management and EHR software
- USMON experience a plus
- Strong written and communication skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Strong time-management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
