The Facilities Assistant performs a wide variety of maintenance, repair, groundskeeping, and other interior and exterior maintenance duties for Talbot House Ministries under the supervision of the Facilities Director.
This position is part of the Emergency Response Team and is expected to be available on-site during weather-related emergency situations (e.g., tropical storms, and hurricanes). In the event of a weather-related emergency, you will report to the Operations Director and/or Facilities Director for specific instructions. Special circumstances will need to be approved by your immediate supervisor.
Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
· Always demonstrate respect for residents and community staff, providing excellent customer service
· Perform routine interior and exterior community maintenance as scheduled and/or requested; this may include painting, gutter cleaning, replacing filters, trash removal, floor care, lawn care, etc.
· Perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment including plumbing, light bulb replacement, A/C maintenance, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repair.
· Respond to all repair requests and maintenance concerns from residents and staff.
· Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns as well as any hazardous conditions to the Facilities Manager in a timely manner.
· Maintain resident privacy and receive proper authority prior to entering resident apartments.
· Ensure that all maintenance items are kept in a safe area to prevent injuries to residents, staff, and visitors.
· Attend in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
· Work with vendors (e.g., landscaping, painting, pest control, etc.) as instructed.
· Strict adherence to all safety/OSHA Requirements.
· May support various renovation activities.
· Perform other duties that may be assigned as needed, and in accordance with the direction of the Facilities Director.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to perform basic repairs to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, and mechanical systems.
· Must be available to work days, evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
· Must demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
· Must demonstrate the ability to successfully work on a team.
· Must be able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing.
Education and Background:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· 1-3 years previous maintenance experience desired
· HVAC Certification
All positions at Talbot House Ministries require mandatory ongoing training and every employee is required to be available for all scheduled training’s. In addition, employee attendance is required at all mandatory staff meetings.
