Essential Functions:
The student staff member maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe. Assists all physical plant staff, maintenance, custodial services, HVAC, trades, and mechanical services staff in the accomplishment of their work (projects, events, on-going programs).
Job Responsibilities:
• Maintains facilities for all of Coastal Bend College as assigned;
• Must safely operate various types of powered equipment required to perform facilities duties while wearing proper safety equipment such as: various equipment, machinery, hand and power tools, including but not limited to: power saws, drills, painting equipment, buffers, vacuums, and etc.;
• Maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties;
• Performs work area clean-up and maintains a safe and clean work area;
• Assist in repair, renovations or replacement of existing windows, doors, walls, ceilings, floor tiles and base;
• Perform minor work requests, repairs; and assist with urgent repairs to doors, windows, floors and ceilings;
• Install signs, display boards, blinds, fixtures (soap and paper goods dispensers, etc.), and repair furnishings (tables, chairs, desks, lab benches, etc.);
• Assist all physical plant staff, maintenance, custodial services, HVAC, trades and mechanical services staff in the accomplishment of their work (projects, events, on-going programs);
• Perform other related duties necessary and within the general scope of regular and preventive maintenance tasks related to the maintenance technician position as assigned by the Director or Supervisor(s)
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work unsupervised on a variety of job tasks from simple to complex. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations and to recognize, secure and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Must have knowledge of safe working techniques and safety equipment and must be aware of the typical hazards of the workplace, as well as the special hazards that may be encountered (biohazards, chemicals, asbestos/lead containing materials, etc.).
Must be able to work effectively in a team and adhere to both written and verbal instructions. They should have the ability to read and write in order to comprehend and successfully complete safety training procedures. A strong work ethic and attention to detail in their work is required, as well as the willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned
