The Engineering Technician at Sierra Space will work day to day on Space Flight Hardware throughout the plant. Programs may include electromechanical components for commercial and Department of Defense satellite systems, Planetary Exploration Systems such as the Mars 2020 Rover, International Space Station and the full system integration, test and launch operations of the Sierra Space Dream Chaser Cargo System. Because of this fluid yet disciplined work environment, Engineering Technicians must have a high degree of both technical competency, written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable working in groups or independently in order to develop prototypes and collaborate with engineers, troubleshoot, document and put explicit plans into action on Space Flight assemblies, ground support equipment and test configurations. Engineering Technicians then must be able to analyze test results and data and provide sound recommendations to the engineering staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Understands, plans and executes testing and troubleshooting activities in accordance with Sierra Space policies, procedures, work instructions and specific customer requirements
- Completes parts lists, checks drawings, generates and processes engineering/document change requests, notices, and/or orders and other general engineer tasking with direction from Engineers
- Responsible for low level design activities including cable design, ICD generation, and non-complex circuit layout/brass boarding
- Utilizes standard laboratory test equipment including: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, voltmeters and other measurement equipment to perform engineering support functions
- Troubleshoots equipment using standard documentation packages including assembly drawings and schematics
- Works with various levels of the system (from the board and component level, to the LRU, to the system level) to identify and resolve performance problems

Must-haves:
- Associate's degree in a related field of study and 6 or more years of experience
- A higher level degree may substitute for experience
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Ability to understand and interpret moderately complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications
- Thorough understanding of the use of standard laboratory test equipment, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, Oscilloscope, Pitot static equipment, other measurement equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Advanced skills with assembly, connectors and crimping techniques
Preferred:
- IPC certificate (with Space Addendum - Sierra Space Only)
- Familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL
- Basic skills with avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, and wiring installation
- Understanding of soldering techniques
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with 3-D CAD software
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, NASA, the US Department of Defense or US Military
- Possess 8-15 years of direct experience in Space Flight Solar Power Systems work environment. Associates in Electrical Engineering Technology or BS/BE a plus preferably from ABET accredited institution.
- Knowledge of interface and design documentation such as Functional block diagrams PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills.
- Certified to or very knowledgeable in IPC 620 Harness/Crimp Certificate (with Space Addendum), IPC J STD Soldering Certificate (with Space Addendum), and NASA-STD- 8739.1 Conformal Coating Certificate
- Expected to be able to perform system integration, checkout, and commissioning of power systems with little oversight.
- Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited institution may substitute for direct experience.

- Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
- Frequently requires vision abilities to include close, distance, depth perception, and telling the difference between colors
- Frequently requires hearing abilities to include discerning different tones and volumes
- Frequently lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$37.09 - $55.64
