Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi-disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is currently seeking a full-time Environmental and NEPA Project Manager to join our team in our Denver, Colorado Springs, or Loveland, Colorado offices. This individual will work with a team of environmental professionals from across the company to conduct environmental analyses and deliver quality documents supporting our federal, state, local and tribal clients under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other applicable federal and state regulations for environmental resource management.
This position is responsible for managing environmental and NEPA projects through all phases, from initial marketing and scope of work/cost estimate development through approval of final deliverables. Specific tasks include marketing and business development, client coordination, management of schedules and budgets, coordination and oversight of project teams (task leads, resource specialists, subconsultant partners, etc.), and collaboration with engineering staff in a variety of industry disciplines including transportation, municipal, and railroad. Project Managers are responsible as principal author of NEPA documentation including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), and Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) to support project approvals for a variety of federal, state, local and tribal clients. Strong writing and communication skills are required.
In addition, Project Managers will have technical expertise in one or more environmental resource disciplines. One specific area of focus for Wilson & Company and our growing Environmental Program is Colorado DOT’s commitment to reducing pollution through Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals and associated air quality assessments/ emissions inventories, at both the regional planning and individual project levels. As such, experience and or expertise in this area will be given added consideration as we fill this position. Other preferred resource discipline experience includes but is not limited to traffic noise, air quality, hazardous materials, and cultural and historic resources. Resource tasks will include completing field surveys, evaluating potential environmental impacts and mitigation requirements, and writing technical reports.
Project Managers may supervise staff within the Environmental Program. This is completely dependent on the needs of the program over time and, therefore, management or supervisory experience is desired. All Wilson & Company environmental staff work collaboratively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm to meet project goals, and other key staff to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide project management, NEPA document, and technical resource duties as detailed in Job Description above.
Serve as project manager for environmental and NEPA projects in Colorado and firmwide; coordinate with and support task leads for overall project performance and deliver projects to clients on schedule and on budget.
Collaborate on the preparation of environmental documentation, including resource-specific technical reports, CEs, EAs, and EISs.
Provide technical environmental resource expertise in one or more of the following disciplines is required: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and associated air quality assessments/emissions inventories, traffic noise, air quality, hazardous materials, and cultural and historic resources.
Support the national environmental program through marketing, proposal preparation, and environmental analysis and documentation.
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across Wilson & Company to meet project goals, and other key staff to build client relationships in Colorado and other states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.
Required Skills
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Sciences, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning or similar discipline. Advanced degrees will be given due attention.
3+ years’ experience managing environmental projects for federal, state, local and tribal clients under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other applicable federal and state regulations for environmental resource management.
5+ years’ experience providing technical environmental resource expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and associated air quality assessments/emissions inventories, traffic noise, air quality, hazardous materials, and cultural and historic resources.
Proven ability to work on a team of professionals to accomplish project and program goals.
Task management skills with proven ability to complete work on schedule and within budget.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in software systems, including the Microsoft suite of programs.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Technical writing skills with experience authoring NEPA documents (PELs, CEs, EAs, and EISs) and technical resource documents.
- Collaboration and communication with environmental resource and regulatory agencies, including but not limited to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- Technical environmental resource expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and associated air quality assessments/emissions inventories, traffic noise, air quality, hazardous materials, and cultural and historic resources.
- Experience in environmental permitting.
- Professional certifications.
