The Engineering Technician I/II assists in the preparation and design of construction plans using AutoCAD, manages data, researches property information, maintains engineering project construction status updates and creates or manages existing GIS applications and documents. Ensures consistency and accuracy of data submitted by other government and private agencies through research, mapping and analysis of information. Provides exhibits and information of a technical nature to City of Englewood staff, City Council, the public, and area governments. Utilizes software applications, including AutoCAD and ArcGIS suite.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provides drafting support for various city projects and work with engineers to prepare plans for construction. Prepares drawings using data obtained from field survey, original designs, previous drawings, sketches, or other sources; performs necessary algebraic and trigonometric calculations.
- Quantifies and verifies work quantities from drawings based on bid schedules.
- Researches public right of way limits through recorded Plats and other public information available.
- Reviews subdivision Plats for conformance with city, county and state standards and provides comments prior to approval
- Creates and manage existing GIS projects and applications
- Builds, maintains and updates spatial databases using GIS software
Technical Duties
- Assists in reviewing CAD project plans and engineering documents for conformance to City standards and practices.
- Calculates quantities of material necessary for project completion.
- Develops applications, dashboards, and documentation relevant to organizational data-driven decision making.
- Troubleshoots issues related to GIS data and applications. Supports existing web and desktop GIS applications throughout the organization. Translates GIS data into useable information.
- Creates complex maps, reports, and data requests in support of internal and external operations, including as reference materials for City Council and other committees.
- Reviews legal descriptions, including document research and mathematical verification. Provides assistance to private surveyors and citizens with land records.
Administrative Duties
- Assists with quantity take-offs and reviews
- Assists CAD and GIS users with technical questions and retrieving information
- Fulfills interdepartmental and contractor data requests by providing exports or data shares as needed
- Updates files from project as-built CAD documents
- Updates project details for the City web site. Revise project status for capital project web pages.
- Assists and provides spatial data exhibits that may be used for community events, City Council presentations or reports.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Engineering Technician I
- Associate’s degree in geography, cartography, earth or environmental sciences, civil engineering, computer science or a related field.
- Formal AutoCAD training in an academic setting is required without job experience. Minimum one semester class or Autodesk Certified Associate (ACA)
- 0-2 years of experience working as an Engineering Technician. Municipal government experience preferred.
- 0-2 years working experience using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal 10.5 or higher.
- 0-2 years professional experience with transportation projects including CAD design\layout, CAD production, or other experience with municipality, CDOT, or other state DOT plan preparation procedures and standards.
- Requires detailed supervision and oversight to perform duties
Engineering Technician II
- Associate’s degree in geography, cartography, earth or environmental sciences, civil engineering, computer science or a related field;
- 2-5 years of experience working as an Engineering Technician. Municipal government experience preferred.
- 2 or more years working experience using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal 10.5 or higher.
- 2 or more years Professional experience with transportation projects including CAD design\layout, CAD production, or other experience with municipality, CDOT, or other state DOT plan preparation procedures and standards.
- Certifications and/or Licensures: Autodesk Certified Professional in AutoCAD for Design and Drafting
- Requires general guidance and oversight to perform duties. Works with minimal direction required to perform duties to expectations
Required Driver’s License: Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR.
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted for consideration.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESBasic Knowledge of:

- ESRI software products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.
- Familiarity with Assessor Parcels and property owner information.
Skills and Abilities
Computer Skills
- AutoCAD 12 or later. Know basic CAD functions: Copy, Measurement, Align, Reference/Geo-Reference files, Polyline/Line
- Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS Advanced platforms (Desktop10.5 or higher and ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or later.)
- Experience sharing GIS web layers using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word & PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Cartegraph, Granicus and Bluebeam is a plus, but not required.
- Proficient in digital data entry.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to perform data entry, filing, and to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time.
HOURLY RATE$21.07 - $36.35/hour
