Role Summary
Supports technical work related to engineering activities. Serves as a liaison and coordinates engineering activities from concept through production testing. Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, and implements or improves new and/or existing products processes, materials, technologies, and equipment. The Engineering Intern will support the staff engineers to create and maintain the programs: DFMEA’s, DVP’s, BOM’s, benchmarking, design review checklist (Craftsmanship review, C15 and GDS scorecard), tolerance stacks, drawing GD&T, DFM/DFA checklists and any customer or internal Magna specific requirements. Performs other duties as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support team efforts related to product, process, tooling, testing, and materials as it relates to product engineering activities.
- · Takes direction from other staff engineers and Engineering Managers for predevelopment engineering activities through the production phase. Understands and adheres to program schedule and reports progress as required.
- Serves as a liaison and coordinates development activities of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered.
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, and implements new and/or existing products, processes, materials and equipment. Engages in comparative and competitive analysis to ensure utilization of most appropriate beneficial techniques.
- Support team effort in benchmarking automotive and non-automotive parts when necessary.
- Performs other duties as necessary for completion of projects and achievement of departmental goals.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Enrolled in Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering or related field with strong desire to understanding product engineering practices, principles, processes, etc.; or equivalent. Previous work experience is preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to product engineering.
- Demonstrates ability to carry out projects from beginning to end in coordination with internal and external contacts and work on moderate to long-term assignments which are broad in nature. Strong organizational, written and communication skills and able to deal with many projects at one time. Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to operate standard and specialized equipment/tools related to the job.
