The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Outreach & Education Coordinator functions as a liaison to create both community education and Continuing Education (CE) that satisfies EMS requirements and guidelines. The EMS coordinator may provide direct care to selected patients as a role model, resource, or mentor for other health care providers.

ResponsibilitiesServes as a clinical resource, educates regarding responsibilities, roles, and capabilities, and promotes strategies for integration into the pediatric health care team. Participates in disaster preparedness planning, instruction, and meets with leadership regularly to review, plan, and ensure education meets current accepted standards. Maintains appropriate documentation for the hospital ODPS EMS CE Site. Serves a diverse population involved in interhospital pediatric transports (ground & air), and community groups or institutions involved in education and or policy development. Collaborates to develop expense and capital budgets. Monitors, evaluates, and justifies monthly budget expenditures. Assesses educational needs and plans, develops, and implements continuing educational modules. Collaborates via education and advisory committees to provide current guidelines, lesson plans, and skills. Acts as liaison to EMS related committees or task forces with involvement in the function, maintenance, or advancement of EMS systems. Provides quality improvement (QI) or PI follow ups to aeromedical agencies, transport teams, and private or community EMS and fire. Reviews selected reports in the CS Stars system, at scheduled M+Ms, and at trauma or burn QI meetings. Promotes own professional development, participates in research, remains current in related research, guidelines, emerging trends in equipment, procedures, EBP, future planning, and applies principals.
QualificationsEducation Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or similar healthcare related field, required. EMS instructor or EMS CE instructor, preferred. State of Ohio EMS Instructor desired or obtained within 1 year of hire, required.Licensure Requirement: Current nursing licensure in the State of Ohio, required.Certifications: Certified in PEPP, EPC, ENPC, or PEARS, preferred. EMT, Paramedic certification, preferred.Skills: Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Robust interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work with diverse groups. Ability to act as a facilitator and change agent, required. Supervisory skills required to plan, assign, and evaluate work. Analytical skills required to oversee, organize, develop, and administer sound policies, procedures, and multidisciplinary practices. Demonstrated knowledge of emergency pediatrics with expertise in resuscitation and stabilization of acutely ill and injured children. Demonstrated competency in lecture and hands on skill presentation. Demonstrated competency in formal instruction for both new learners and review of competency.Experience: 3 years of pediatric emergency, critical care, or transport nursing, required. Prehospital experience, preferred (EMT, Paramedic or Flight Nurse). Previous formal experience as instructor at the EMS or nursing level, precepting, or simulation facilitator, preferred.The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
