Position/Job Description
- Perform soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling in support of environmental investigation and remediation projects.
- Perform Underground Storage Tank closure assessments, release response assessments, and free product recovery.
- Conduct Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments and other due diligence assessments.
- Conduct hazardous material inspections and sampling including but not limited to asbestos, lead, and mold, and prepare hazardous material inspection and sampling reports.
- Perform waste characterization, and soil and ground water profiling.
- Perform onsite drilling and other related construction activity observatory oversight.
- Assist with preparation of Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements; and Special Management Area permitting efforts.
- Assist with County building planning and permitting project specific permit applications.
- Produce figures and designs using AutoCAD; assist in drawing engineering plan sets for civil and wastewater projects, if needed periodically.
- Perform soil percolation tests and injection well falling head tests; and project site investigation.
- Work independently (self-motivated) and collaboratively (with team members, clients, and other project stakeholders) on assigned projects and communicate effectively and professionally.
- Learn the principles, practices, and processes of efficient and effective design solutions and problem solving to assigned projects.
- Learn the nuances to successful project completion in the State and Counties of Hawai‘i.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, biology, or other science related fields with a minimum 1 year of professional experience, but preferably 2 to 5 years of professional experience in environmental compliance or a similar science-related field.
- Ability to understand architectural/engineer drawings.
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously while effectively collaborating with a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task with various projects and schedules; maintain a high attention to detail.
- Possess a valid driver's license and operating vehicle.
- Possess a computer/laptop and mobile phone.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and work outdoors for extended periods of time.
Job Details
- Full-time (40 hours per week), salaried exempt with flexible work schedules.

- Desktop or laptop computer.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, mainly Autodesk.
- Microsoft Office 365 software.
- Google Workspace.
- Adobe Acrobat (or equivalent pdf editing software).
- Kintone (training provided).
- One-person auger, drill bit, and hand tools.
- Sampling and testing equipment for various items (e.g., groundwater, soil, injection well wastewater effluent samples) for environmental and regulatory compliance.
