EHS Home Visitor - Full Time/52-weeks (various locations)
Columbus, OH
Job Summary
Provides comprehensive Head Start services to children primarily in their home environment by partnering with parents to develop activities based on each child’s individual strengths and interests in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.
This is a full-time position that requires ongoing local travel. In addition to being able to work 35 hours a week, Monday-Friday with some evening/weekend work, candidates must effectively perform identified essential duties & responsibilities, and meet all qualifications noted in the proceeding sections. Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required. Upon request, and with required documentation, reasonable accommodations may be available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities(In addition to the following, other duties may be assigned)
Recruits and enrolls children and families in the Home Base option maintaining a caseload of no less than 10 families.
Monitors all indoor and outdoor learning environments to ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times.
Completes the pre-admission process with each enrolled family.
Completes the required developmental and sensory screenings on each child.
In collaboration with parents, plans and conducts weekly home visits following the agency’s prescribed curriculum.
Plans and facilitates socialization experiences that provide parents and children opportunities to interact with peers and adults in a classroom or community setting.
Completes written observations and anecdotal notes, and enters documentation of child progress, attendance, etc. utilizing agency technology tools.
Establishes and implements procedures for ongoing observations utilizing outcome data related to child performance. Responsible for recording and evaluating children’s growth and development to ensure that appropriate activities are planned and executed to meet individual needs.
Completes, documents and monitors the family assessment and goal setting process for all families enrolled in the program.
Provides opportunities to actively encourage parents’ participation in the child’s education and development through parent engagement, parents as partners’ activities, volunteer in-kind hours and parent meetings.
Actively participates in service coordination through attendance at IEP/IFSP, MDT, and CFR meetings along with designated agency staff.
Attends workshops and training programs in order to deliver and coordinate agency services (i.e., disabilities, mental health) as necessary for children and families.
Reports all cases of suspected child abuse/neglect to Franklin County Children Services according to agency procedures and the Ohio Revised Code Section 2151.421.
Required Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability necessary, in order for an individual to perform essential duties and responsibilities effectively.
Education and/or Experience
Home Base CDA credential or equivalent, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Adult Education, Social Service or a related field with Early Childhood coursework; or a combination of Early Childhood Education and experience in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. One year of experience teaching infants and toddlers, ages birth to 3. Knowledge of diverse ethnic groups.
Technology Skills
Ability to use word processing skills, basic spreadsheet skills, electronic presentation skills, web navigation skills, e-mail management skills, computer network knowledge applicable to your department, file management & windows explorer skills, computer-related storage devices (knowledge: disks, CD’s, USB drives, zip disks, DVDs, etc.);
Physical Demands
The ability to see clearly up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus quickly, is necessary. Individuals will be required to speak, listen, stand, and to walk frequently. Employees are also required to sit at the children’s level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. At any given time, an employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Mental Fitness
The ability to focus and to use a sound thought process to make well informed decisions, the ability to remain calm, control emotions, and maintain a professional conduct at all times, including during stressful situations involving adversity and challenging behaviors.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
