Work Schedule: The work of this position occurs between May 2024 – September 2024. It will have flexible hours between 7:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.Schedule to be discussed with manager based on individual and bureau needs.
Note: This Community Service Aide (CSA II) position has a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year.
Work Location: Central work location will be Mt. Tabor Maintenance Yard – 6437 SE Division St., Portland, OR 97206. Field work will occur in various parks across Portland, OR.
Benefits: These positions have limited benefit eligibility. Casual employees accrue City sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked or 1 and 1/3 hours for every 40 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per calendar year. Casual employees have access to the City’s EAP program through ComPsych. They can become eligible for health benefits through the City’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) policy. This policy measures benefit eligible employee’s hours during set 6-month measurement periods throughout the year. If an employee does meet the hours requirement for benefits coverage, their benefits would start first of the month following a 60-day administrative period. The Benefits office would reach out to the employee if they should become eligible.

Position Summary
The Natural Area Assessment program is working to assess all Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) owned and managed natural area sites. These sites include entirely natural sites, natural portions of hybrid parks, and nature-themed gardens in developed parks. The results of these assessments will help inform resource allocation, plan for future fiscal needs, and prioritize on-the-ground interventions. The work will help PP&R to build long-term plans and to track the impacts of management efforts and stressors including climate change.
In this position, your primary role will be helping to assess the condition and ecological function of PP&R owned and managed natural area sites. You will conduct site visits, locate plot locations, and record site characteristics. Working in a team, you will spend time in the field identifying plant species and comparing observed conditions to a rating guide and reference location.
This position will also support PP&R’s other assessment work. This work may also include assessing trail conditions following established criteria.
