Title: Early Learning Program Teachers
Availability: Full-time openings
Department: ELP
Reports to: Operational Superintendent

Position Summary: The job involves creating a safe and engaging educational daycare environment for students in Early Learning Program and/or NC Pre-K, including classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips. The employee will be responsible for developing individual goals for each child, assessing their progress, and helping them transition into other childcare, pre-school and kindergarten settings. The role also includes supporting parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children, and encouraging their involvement in all aspects of the program. The employee will maintain ongoing contact with families, and work with other service providers to integrate services into the family setting. Additionally, the employee will be responsible for ensuring that the program meets the goals of excellence set by the Operational Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education - Required:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • EDU119 or willingness to enroll in EDU119 within 6 months of offer of employment
Requirements:
  • Willing/able to be CPR and First Aid Certified upon offer of employment
  • CRC Background check letter
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates positive behavior to children that aligns with the YWCA's culture and mission, promoting non-violence, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Collaborates with the Teachers to create and implement a daily curriculum that meets daycare center requirements, incorporating strategies to reduce childhood obesity through healthy eating habits and exercise.
  • Adheres to and implements all health, safety, and cleanliness regulations for a five-star-rated child care center and ensures that classroom staff also comply with regulations.
  • Keeps up-to-date with the latest child development theories and best practices, applying this knowledge to promote language, cognitive, social and emotional, and physical development for children.
  • Completes administrative tasks in collaboration with the Teachers each day, ensuring that volunteer work is effectively directed and follows all regulations.
  • Maintains positive interactions with parents, providing updates on children's daily activities, health, and other areas of interest, while also informing management of any health or wellness concerns.
Written Documentation:
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure accurate record keeping, including maintaining written and electronic records of assessments, special education documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations, and other necessary forms required for transition to public school and parent-teacher conferences.
Collaborative Service:
  • Collaborates with a co-teacher to support classroom management, with the possibility of leading the classroom.
  • Completes assigned tasks given by Instructional Specialists, Program Coordinators and the Director of Early Childhood Education.
  • Attends regular team meetings at the YWCA.
  • Helps with conducting regular assessments, conferences, and sharing information on child development and educational strategies.
  • Facilitates two parent/teacher conferences per year, potentially including home visits for EHS and NC PreK programs.
Curriculum Development:
  • Collaborates with colleagues to evaluate individual and group requirements, taking into account unique interests, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Contributes to the creation of a comprehensive and appropriate daily and weekly curriculum that caters to each child's distinct needs and is developmentally suitable.
  • Aids in the procurement of classroom resources and materials to reinforce daily plans and ensures regular updates and maintenance of learning centers.
YWCA Administration:
  • Participates in YWCA-directed trainings and meetings as required by the Director of Early Childhood Education and YWCA administration.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as deemed suitable for the role by YWCA administration.
  • Works with a diverse population of YWCA members, participants, and staff members, taking into account differences in culture and socioeconomic status.
Working Conditions:
  • The role involves working closely with children, which may result in exposure to childhood illnesses.
  • Additionally, the position requires spending time outdoors with the children for play and supervision, in all weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
  • To successfully perform the essential duties of this job, the employee must meet certain physical demands, which include standing for extended periods of time, occasional lifting and/or moving of heavy objects or boxes, and actively participating in physically demanding activities associated with working with children under the age of 6, such as bending, lifting, diapering, floor play, and leading fitness activities.
  • The employee may also be required to participate in outdoor play throughout the year. Additionally, there may be occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
