Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill an immediate position for a full-time Early Career Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer. Teal is focused on creating world class system solutions serving a broad range of applications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Teal is working to deliver state of the art, high quality, high performance robotic systems to address the growing applications in the drone industry.
This position is located at the TEAL facility in South Salt Lake City.
Pay Range: $95k-$112K per year DOE
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, prototype, implement, and test new flight behaviors to meet customer needs.
- Enhance payload state estimation, sensors, and Control.
- Perform trade studies to identify optimal sensor selection and placement.
- Continuously refine and optimize flight performance of deployed systems.
- Analyze flight telemetry to verify/validate new features and diagnose flight anomalies on deployed systems.
- Engage in research and development of advanced state estimation and Control techniques.
- Collaborate with autonomy and software engineers to integrate advanced new features into the flight stack.
- Develop analysis tools to process flight telemetry.
- Develop models and simulations of flight vehicles and payloads to aid in the development of trade studies, control tuning, state estimation, guidance law design, and custom algorithm development.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with a focus in robotics and/or control systems.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, comprising both engineering and non-engineering members.
- Ability to independently follow through on assigned tasks.
- Comfortable conducting data analysis using MATLAB or Python.
- Proficient working with various programming languages, including C/C++.
Additional Desired Attributes and Skills:
- Familiarity with the PX4 flight stack.
- Familiarity with configuration management and build tools such as Git, Gitlab, and Jenkins.
- Understanding of quadcopter flight dynamics, state estimation, and Control techniques.
- Possess or is willing to obtain a Part 107 pilots license.
- Previous experience flying quadcopters.
- Conceptual understanding of common flight sensors including gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, and GPS receivers.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor and indoor settings.
- Capable of standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Able to maneuver and operate equipment and tools safely.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for handling delicate components.
- Ability to travel occasionally for field tests or client meetings.
