Director of Development (Fundraising)

Compensation:

  • In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

 

Role Summary

The Director of Development plays a pivotal role in Wayfinder Family Services through fundraising for the annual fund and major gifts, managing various fundraising and stewardship events, and coordinating volunteer leadership efforts. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development and Donor Relations, the Director of development position focuses on donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and planning and executing signature events to engage donors and raise critical funds for the organization.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensures sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Carrying a portfolio of 100-125 annual and major gift prospects primarily located in Northern CA. Actively managing and tracking those prospects through the stages of the donor cycle. Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors to secure annual and major gifts.
  • Creating individual gift solicitations commensurate with the prospective donors' capacity and likelihood to give and their interest and desired impact on Wayfinder Family Services.
  • Weekly reporting on portfolio and moves-management strategies to the AVP of Development and Donor Relations.
  • Plan an annual signature fundraising event for 200 guests and an annual stewardship event for 100 guests.
  • Secure sponsorships and manage all event logistics, including budget, venue selection, catering, entertainment, and guest lists. Work with volunteers and committees to ensure successful event execution.
  • Oversee a volunteer council's engagement and fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with council members to establish goals and objectives that align with the organization's mission.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans and initiatives to ensure positive fundraising outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as may become necessary or as directed.

Qualifications: 

 1. Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.

2. Experience:

  • At least five years of development experience is required.
  • A track record of front line fundraising success, including annual fund and major gifts, with the ability to close major gifts at the $10,000 level and above, developing solicitation asks and fundraising plans, and demonstrating creative and innovative approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal, written, analytic, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing a volunteer leadership group (i.e., junior board, council, committee).
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate with colleagues in a team setting.
  • Strong focus on achieving team and personal goals.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to represent Wayfinder Family Services and articulate its mission to various constituencies with poise and diplomacy.
  • Ability to travel for donor visits throughout California.
