NAMI Minnesota, located in St. Paul, is hiring a Director of Children’s Programs to lead a team of four (4) employees and oversee programming that is designed to educate and support parents and caregivers of children, children and teens living with a mental illness, and adults who work with children, including multicultural communities. This role collaborates with organizations within the community that serve children and youth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Leadership
● Leads, coaches, supports, motivates, and manages the children’s program team, which includes a family peer educator, multicultural program coordinator, youth programs coordinator, parent education project coordinator, and bilingual parent educator.
● Hires, trains, and onboards children’s program staff in collaboration with the operations director.
● Creates and maintains positive, productive working relationships with the executive director, board, direct reports, directors, volunteers, and other staff members.
● Participates on the leadership team, to give input on organization-wide decisions.
● Oversees the children’s program team budget.
Program Development
● Develops curriculum and teaches a variety of classes targeted toward families of children and youth, including community organizations who support youth mental health.
● Evaluates programming in terms of satisfaction, increased knowledge and reaching diverse communities.
● Guides the team in carrying out activities and grant deliverables in accordance with the work plan and budget.
● Ensures grant information is supplied by individual children’s team staff to the Director of operations in a timely manner.
● Evaluates NAMI National programs designed to serve youth and that inform community education.
Collaboration
● Leads team activities and provides direct supervision which includes weekly meetings and monthly meetings with individual staff. Present team activities at monthly all-staff meetings.
● Collaborate with organizations within the community that serve children and youth to offer programming.
● Present NAMI classes and workshops at conferences, i.e. annual Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACHMH) conference.
Administrative
● Oversee the team with technical assistance such as processing purchase orders, expense reports and mileage reports, and other internal processes.
● Approve and monitor requests for continuing education classes for professional development and vacation requests.
● Complete monthly reports for the NAMI board of directors
● Present at board meetings as requested by the executive director.
● Additional development, leadership, or administrative duties as assigned.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt/Salaried
PRIMARY LOCATION: NAMI Minnesota 1919 University Ave W #400, St. Paul, MN 55104
PAY: $68,000-$85,000, commensurate with qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
● At least three (3) years of related experience with working knowledge of children’s mental health systems. At least one (1) year of leadership experience preferred.
● Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to deliver persuasive public presentations.
● Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to develop trusted, respectful, and reciprocal working relationships with co-workers and community partners.
● Ability to consistently manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail.
● Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or related software.
● Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred, such as community health worker or family peer, but not required.
● Lived experience with a friend, loved one, or child living with a mental illness preferred. We define “lived experience” as the knowledge and skills gained through experiences related to community, relationships, and other direct circumstances that may not be captured on a typical resume.

● Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time and ability to lift up to 15 lbs.*

● This position requires in-person work (3) days a week and local travel up to 10% of the time.
