As the Assistant Director of Shelter, you will lead a team of dedicated people who work daily to change the lives of families experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will embrace a mission-driven, trauma-informed environment—we work hard and have a big impact.
As the Assistant Director, you will oversee the daily operations of the shelter program, which serves 40-60 families experiencing homelessness in the Boston area. You will supervise a team of case managers, housing advocates, and residential managers to provide quality 24-hour services and rapidly re-house families. The Assistant Director will actively participate in the leadership team to promote cross-collaboration among teams and departments.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS NEEDED:
Successful candidates will be required to have:
- 2 years of direct supervisory experience, five years of experience in a congregate shelter/housing search/placement nonprofit environment.
- Written and verbal fluency in the English language.
- Valid driver's license and registered and insured reliable vehicle required.
- Full vaccination against Covid-19.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- A preferred Bachelor’s Degree in a human services or related field
- Ability to speak/write in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
We are looking for a strong leader with exemplary problem-solving and decision-making skills with solid attention to detail, planning, and organization skills. The Assistant Director will oversee processes, guide initiatives, and inspire employees toward achieving goals.
The Assistant Director must be available and willing to respond to occasional emergencies (usually just by phone) on a 24/7 basis, not including scheduled vacations. This position requires proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of ETO and other databases is a plus.
