The Director, Commercial Operations role will support our rapidly growing Life Sciences business and will have the opportunity to continuously shape strategy and drive change in our passionate and collaborative organization. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is based in Morrisville, North Carolina with a hybrid work schedule option.
The Director of Commercial Operations will establish and lead the Commercial Operations function at Metabolon. They will advise functional leaders, drive outcomes that maximize revenue generation, and ensure cross-functional collaboration aligned with the larger company-wide revenue strategy and operational priorities. This role is responsible for developing and managing customer success, sales data analytics and reporting, sales operations, and sales compensation and planning.
Responsibilities- Lead a team that delivers consistent reporting and strategic and operational insights on sales and marketing activities.
- Help optimize and drive comprehensive, cross-functional processes around sales reporting and analytics, quota setting and management, prospect and customer engagement training, sales program implementation, sales compensation administration, CRM administration, contract lifecycle management and pricing strategy.
- Lead optimization and utilization of SalesForce.com across the enterprise.
- Collaborate strongly in the design, development, and maintenance of actionable Key Performance Indicators, global dashboards, and reports within Salesforce.com (SFDC), Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint to ensure the relevant and timely visibility on performance metrics and risk mitigation plans.
- Analyze data and trends to seek out and identify meaningful business insights and propose and implement solutions.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Operations, Marketing, and HR to support operational and strategic needs.
- Lead the design process of the sales compensation plan, and partner with key stakeholders (sales, finance, HR) to communicate and administer a plan that effectively drives commercial success.
- Review pricing, contracts, and pipeline conversion metrics, and drive plans to improve performance across the organization.
- Work closely with the operations team to optimize production efficiency and accelerate revenue.
- Take an active role in customer satisfaction. Establish and maintain excellent customer service standards, ensuring the team plays an active role in resolving customer issues and complaints promptly. Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Recruit, train, develop and mentor a high-performing Commercial Operations team. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the group.
- BA/BS degree, ideally in business, mathematics, statistics, data analytics or similar area. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience, including 10 years' experience in Sales Operations, Strategic Planning, Sales, Management Consulting, Sales Planning or equivalent. Biopharm/Biotech experience strongly preferred; public company experience a strong plus.
- Deep experience in sales operations, contract administration, metrics and data analysis.
- Experience designing complex financial models and data analysis to drive strategy and execution.
- Experience managing people leaders with a demonstrated ability to grow and develop a team.
- Familiarity with data warehouses and relational database systems.
- High level of experience with SalesForce.com and Tableau or other business intelligence tools building interactive data visualization and dashboards. Experience with Conga Contracts, Marketo and other sales tools a plus.
- Strong, proven ability to break down complex, high level business problems into concrete analytical solutions and implementation plans.
- Demonstrated ability to drive effective solution development and implementation.
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a self-directed capacity
- Able to move seamlessly between strategic thinking and detail-oriented execution.
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence across all levels of an organization, including senior leadership by using strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to build successful collaborations with internal and external partners.
