Design Drafter

Our team in Space and Defense Group is looking for a Design Drafter to join them. You will report to the Supervisor of Drafting and will have an on-site work schedule initially throughout training in East Aurora, NY with an option to work a hybrid schedule at a later date. The Design Drafter will work closely with Engineering to develop their thoughts and sketches into layouts, drawings, and schematics. The incumbent may have the freedom to make decisions independently and they should have a well-developed and demonstrated ability to use judgment to evaluate and present design alternatives when doing so.
The duties consist of leading the graphical evolution of new products from layout to drawings including correctness of proportion, arrangement of internal components, necessary dimensional information and material and/or process suggestions. The incumbent produces final drawings or 3D/Solid models independently or in conjunction with others. The design drafting process requires the incumbent to utilize the Computer Aided Design (CAD) System to produce a variety of drawings and layouts to enable better visualization, clearance checks, and also provides manufacturing information for Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) operations. Therefore, competent usage of CAD equipment is essential. You will support Engineering, Sales, and Program Management for bid and proposal efforts by providing layouts and assemblies in an expedient manner including collecting all Drafting submittal data into a complete package ready for transmittal to the customer.
To be considered for the Design Drafter, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

• Associate's Degree in a technical major, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Technology with a minimum of 8 years Drafting/Design experience.
• The incumbent must possess a comprehensive knowledge of good drafting practices and techniques, machine shop practices, part fabrication methods, mathematics through descriptive geometry, dimensioning techniques, and geometric tolerancing.

As a Design Drafter, you will:

• Convert layouts into working detail drawings independently or by utilizing Drafters, Detailers, or other Designers. As such, they are part of a product design and development team which consists of Design, Manufacturing, Product, and Quality Engineering.
• Checking drawings for completeness and accuracy
• In conjunction with Engineering, ensures basic integrity of designs and layouts using correctness of proportionality, sizing, dimensional accuracy, correctness of tolerance limits, and conformance to geometric tolerancing (GD&T) practices. In addition, the incumbent shall review surface finishes for impact on fits, design requirements, and effects on cost.
• Act as focal point for his/her projects as they progress from concept to release. This activity is performed by coordinating the efforts of drafting personnel, ensuring continuity and consistency, maintains information critical to progress reports, prepares estimates, attends project-oriented meetings, and ensures completion of associated tasks on dates required.
• Provide adequate support for PDR, CDR and proposal activities in a time frame established by Design Engineering, Sales, or customer requirements.
• Ensure correct use of the CAD system as it relates to file management, file conversions, practices, library creation and sharing.

Salary Range:

• The base pay range for this opportunity is $29.00 - 42.00 per hour.
