The Community Programs Manager is a vital position in advancing the goals of harm reduction in Marin’s 2-Spirit and LGBTQ+ communities. The Spahr Center is dedicated to leveraging its extensive experience in serving the LGBTQ+ community to establish a network of resources and training aimed at promoting substance use prevention within Marin County's LGBTQ+ youth population. In collaboration with the Director of Community Outreach, the Community Programs Manager will play a pivotal role in managing various activities designed to reduce stigma associated with substance use, increase awareness of harm reduction strategies, and strengthen treatment referral pathways within the LGBTQ+ community.
This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Community Outreach.
Responsibilities:- Educational Workshops and Discussion Groups
- Collaborate with program staff and youth leaders to develop an engaging and LGBTQ+ specific curriculum for educational workshops and discussion groups on substance use
- Oversee the hosting of discussions and workshops within our programs and weekly support groups once every semester.
- Regularly conduct outreach within these groups throughout the grant period, creating separate spaces for youth to access additional support.
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ youth to receive information, share experiences, and seek guidance on substance use and harm reduction.
- Provider Training:
- Develop specialized training sessions for substance use service providers to ensure culturally appropriate support for the LGBTQ+ community.
- Coordinate and deliver a minimum of 10 training sessions for service providers, focusing on serving LGBTQ+ individuals, including trans and nonbinary individuals.
- Work closely with trainers to develop comprehensive and engaging training materials.
- Ensure providers gain competency in LGBTQ+ affirming services and harm reduction strategies.
- Evaluation and Reporting:
- Administer feedback forms to collect input from participants in workshops, training sessions, and discussions.
- Facilitate discussions with LGBTQ+ community members and service providers to gather insights and feedback.
- Administer pre- and post-surveys for training sessions to measure the impact and effectiveness of the training.
- Formulate and manage a group of youth leaders to provide feedback on workshop content, enabling continuous improvement in engaging with their peers.
- Expected Outcomes:
- Facilitate a minimum of 10 training sessions to educate at least 50 substance use providers on LGBTQ+ affirming services.
- Lead and facilitate a total of 50 workshops and discussions on substance use, stigma, and support services specifically targeting LGBTQ+ youth.
- Collaborate with school GSA’s, 9th-grade health classes, and existing LGBTQ+ support groups to deliver training.
- Create an inclusive and open atmosphere during workshops and discussions to encourage questions and engagement.
- Ensure a strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, substance use stigma, harm reduction strategies, and community support avenues.
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience in public health, social work, psychology, LGBTQ+ studies, or related work and life experience. Bachelor’s degree a plus.
- Prior experience in program management and coordination.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and substance use stigma.
- Excellent problem solving, decision making, and time-management skills.
- Familiarity with harm reduction strategies and LGBTQ+ affirming services.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to engage and encourage participants to ask questions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to utilize technology to achieve results, including google suite, slack, zoom, and docusign.
- Current driver's license and reliable transportation to conduct outreach across Marin County.
- Commitment to promoting the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth in Marin County.
- Completion of background check.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, and flexible hours, including day, evening, and weekend shifts.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position paying $30.25/hr. The Spahr Center offers health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance and offers an FSA plan, and vacation time. Excellent working environment in central Marin County, California within close proximity to numerous restaurants, parks, and trails. Remote work is a possibility 1x/week.
