Community Outreach Health Educator Lead, West TN

REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager, Education

FLSA STATUS: Exempt/Salaried

SCHEDULE: Hybrid 3 days in-office and 2 days WFH

COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT FOR CANDIDATES SEEKING EMPLOYMENT:

PPTNM, as both a healthcare provider and a participant of Medicare/Medicaid, is subject to certain laws, regulations and orders requiring its workforce to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and its variants. Job Summary:

Delivers high-quality, medically accurate, culturally responsive education programs to various community groups. Facilitates professional training, HIV testing and education, and youth leadership programming that increases access to sex education for people in West Tennessee. Customizes or develops lesson plans and curricula when appropriate. Maintains fidelity and implements evidence-based programs (EBP) where required. Conducts outreach to expand services in designated service areas and assists community organizations in selecting and delivering appropriate programs.

Lead Responsibilities - (30%)

  • Plan, implement, and oversee non-clinical HIV testing events in collaboration with community organizations and stakeholders.
  • Deliver comprehensive HIV education to individuals participating in testing programs.
  • Track and manage inventory of testing materials. Record and maintain comprehensive data related to HIV testing programs in accordance with state and funder requirements. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other applicable privacy regulations.
  • Coordinate regional condom distribution to community partners for timely and efficient delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of condom inventory levels and track distribution to various partners.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and government agencies to enhance the reach and impact of HIV testing initiatives.
  • Develop strategies for a seamless transition into medical care for individuals with positive test results.
  • Provide support and guidance to testing staff and volunteers in handling sensitive issues. Recruit and manage interns and volunteers for condom distribution in West Tennessee.
  • Attend relevant regional meetings and conferences to stay informed about the latest developments in HIV testing, education, and linkage to care. Implement changes based on feedback, data analysis, and emerging trends in HIV prevention, testing, education, and care.

Community Outreach Health Educator Responsibilities (70%):

  • Delivers high-quality, medically accurate, culturally responsive education programs on sexuality, reproductive health, and Planned Parenthood services to people in the community.
  • Assist in the development of the Tennessee Teen Advisory Board peer education through the facilitation of youth leadership and/or peer education programming for youth in West Tennessee. Responsibilities may include establishing relationships with youth; recruiting youth; monthly meetings (often during evenings or weekends) with youth; facilitating education sessions and community-based impact projects in partnership with youth; providing support and recognition to youth; planning, tracking, and completing program evaluation activities, etc.

  • Builds and maintains authentic and reciprocal relationships with community partners, stakeholders and others invested in young people, with a priority placed on BIPOC and LGBTQ youth populations.

  • Represents Planned Parenthood at community gatherings.

  • When appropriate, customize lesson plans and curricula or develop new lesson plans and curricula for outreach education and training efforts. Utilizes appropriate educational and technological methodologies and ensures cultural sensitivity.

  • Prepares and distributes educational and informational materials for education programs and responds to requests for materials.

  • Provides monthly reports of educational and outreach activities and other data and reporting requirements, as necessary.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing networks.

  • Completes administrative tasks, such as tracking program activities, completing data entry, scheduling, and communicating in a timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities For This Position:

  • Willing to work weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Knowledge of reproductive health and sexuality, HIV prevention preferred.
  • Commitment to the goals of PPTNM and quality healthcare and education.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, education, counseling or related area preferred.
  • Ability to travel, primarily local travel is frequent and anticipated to average 15%.
  • Must have access to a car. Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance are required.

Experience:

  • Three to four years of experience as an educator, trainer, and/or working with youth.
  • Sexual and reproductive health knowledge is required.
  • Experience with public speaking and health program facilitation preferred.
  • Experience with outreach, recruitment, and relationship building preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
