Job Description
The Manager of Community Outreach is responsible for developing community engagement activities for the Meharry Addiction Clinic (MAC) that will build sustainable relationships with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Harm Reduction Agencies (HR), Syringe Services Programs (SSP), and any related government and business entities. Duties include providing guidance and assistance to potential and current collaborators of the MAC regarding Community Outreach that will serve to strengthen ties and build a network with community organizations including SSPs, HR agencies, State Health Departments, and other entities. Facilitate access to and participate in meetings with the above referenced groups to represent the college's position on Community Outreach matters. The Manager (COEM) will serve in a key leadership role managing both outreach workers and patients in receiving comprehensive care for Hepatitis C (HCV), HIV, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, overdose prevention and care and Harm Reduction services.
Daily Operations
• Manage and coordinate community engagement efforts internally and externally.
• Maintain and create opportunities for individuals and community partners to support the mission of the MAC.
• Supervise and guide outreach workers as needed.
• Participate in weekly project team meetings and staffing.
• Provides key oversight over client support measures and grant goals and objectives.
• Provides outreach, education, and linkages to support services and testing.
• Provides patient education regarding HIV/HCV and sexually transmitted infections as well as providing HIV/HCV testing and overdose prevention and care.
• Assist in managing and directing throughout the planning process of various community events.
• Represent the MAC at events, to volunteer groups, and in the community with the goal of increasing the visibility of Meharry's advancement priorities and needs.
• Maintains an ongoing log of communication with patients to facilitate treatment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
• Knowledge of Community Outreach, events planning and management, higher education, and health related issues.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of substance abuse treatment
• Ability to interact effectively with staff, clients, agencies, etc.
• Demonstrated effective supervisory skills
• Ability to assess crises and respond appropriately
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality in a culturally competent setting
• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships and to project a professional and positive image of the MAC and the Institution.
Required Experience
• A Bachelor's Degree or Five (5) years of experience in Community Outreach
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization and community.
• PC proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft- Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge and ability to access community resources.
