Community News Editor

O’Rourke Media Group is looking for a Community News Editor for the Sheboygan Sun in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. We are seeking someone who is passionate about telling stories that matter to our community — someone who is fair, accurate and ethical. The Sun is a free weekly printed paper with a companion website. The publication focuses on the people and businesses that make Sheboygan a great place to live and it features stories on upcoming events of interest to area residents.

The successful candidate for this position is someone who can:

• Represent the Sun in person at events across the area;
• Write about people and their passions;
• Spread the word on key upcoming events in the cities we cover;
• Write engaging stories about new businesses;
• Develop exceptional writing skills;
• Put in the extra effort and research to deliver an engaging story;
• Work with the community to grow the amount of user generated content; and
• Post daily to the Sun’s website.

Qualifications:

• Degree in journalism or a related field;
• Experience as a reporter covering local news and feature stories. Recent college graduates with internship or college newspaper experience will be considered;
• The ability to meet deadlines;
• Superior language, writing and editing skills;
• Some photography and associated editing software experience;
• Able to work a variety of schedules, including evenings, nights and weekends; and
• A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
