Employment Opportunity
The Communications/Marketing Intern is a Summer internship position working under the direction of the Public Information Officer. This position is designed to provide interns with experiential learning opportunities to develop professional-level skills in communications, public relations, marketing, and community outreach in a local government setting.
Qualifications
One to two (1-2) years of university-level schooling/training with current enrollment in upper level courses in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Digital Marketing, or other related fields.Knowledge of marketing, promotional, communications, public relations practices and principles Knowledge of journalistic writing and media communications, including appropriate use of the English/Spanish language, grammar, punctuation, composition, etc. Ability to use and manage social media platforms effectivelyAbility to project a positive image of the City in the preparation of marketing and media materials Ability to anticipate public relations and communications needs and to be proactive in addressing such needsAbility to use discretion and independent judgmentAbility to appropriately use City funds, materials and equipmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city officials, media representatives, and the public Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to organize, analyze, and report on various topicsSocial media marketing, content creation, and video editing skills are highly desirableImmediate design skills with experience with the Adobe Suite, Canva, or other graphic design software is preferred
Pay and Benefits
Individual starting salary will depend on qualifications, certifications, and experience. The City also provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
Schedule
Flexible schedule with some nights and weekends. Up to 40 hours a week.
