Job description

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Marketing of the Branding, Marketing, and Communications team at the David Eccles School of Business, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to public relations and internal/external communication functions of the school and assigned departments within the school, including (but not limited to) promotions, publishing, circulation, news releases, scripting and speech writing, web content, ad copy, newsletters, blog copy, crisis communications, relationship building, and general Eccles School representation.

Responsibilities
1. Lead all writing functions for the Branding, Marketing, and Communications department including, but not limited to press releases, long-form content, web copy, newsletters, ad copy, web content, speech writing, blog copy, and crisis communications.
2. Plans, coordinates and implements an effective internal and external public relations and communications program designed to keep the public informed of the programs and achievements of the David Eccles School of Business or assigned department.
3. Develops content of all publications and on-line media.
4. Develops and fosters relationships with members of the media and UMC Communications.
5. Promotes faculty research and Eccles School rankings to external stakeholders including local, regional, and national media.
6. Prepares and distributes news releases, story ideas, photographs and videos to media representatives and other University constituencies.
7. Coordinates public events and special projects as assigned.
8. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
