About this role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Control Management Director to support the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Commercial Real Estate (CRE) business, specifically leading the CRE Control Programs, Governance and Reporting team. This is a highly visible strategic leadership role with an opportunity to lead and develop key risk priorities to support the CRE business.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the delivery, coordination, and/or execution of key control programs such as Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Operational Risk Events (ORE), Issue Management and Scenario Analysis.
  • Manage the execution of CRE’s key risk governance forums and processes with a keen focus on ensuring senior business and control leaders remain abreast of risks, control health, and similar infrastructure and capacity concerns. Oversee the development and production of impactful risk management reporting used in key governance routines.
  • Partner closely with the COO function to implement various risk and control profile enhancements and optimization strategies benefiting CRE as a whole.
  • Maintain data quality of CRE’s risk and control inventory through proactive monitoring and collaboration with Business Control Managers (BCMs).
  • Lead CRE’s engagement with the Enterprise Risk Programs - including Enterprise Risk ID & Assessment (ERIA), Risk Measurement (KRI program), New Business Initiatives, and RCSA, while ensuring ongoing compliance with related policies.
  • Represent CRE and CRE Control in special projects.
  • Establish relationships with key testing and exam partners within Independent Testing & Validation, Internal Audit, Evidence-Based Control Evaluation, and Regulators, where applicable.
  • Ensure the CRE Control team, and relevant partners, remain abreast of changes to risk programs, risk profiles, policies, procedures and other governing documents and processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the unique risks facing the CRE businesses and demonstrate a keen understanding of their ratings and any current and planned mitigation plans.


Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Risk Management or Business Controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of Management experience

  • Working knowledge of Corporate & Investment Banking businesses, its products and services, and relevant risks and controls of the business.
  • Highly professional, adaptable and proactive mindset with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a fast paced and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex concepts and processes into simplified and targeted solutions while communicating those concepts effectively and ensuring that all deliverables are met.
  • Strong data analysis and presentation skills with ability to translate and summarize complex data into understandable, actionable information and recommendations.
  • Strong relationship building and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written and interpersonal) with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success operationalizing a business’ governance construct inclusive of leadership forums, councils, committees, escalation protocols, reporting routines etc.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy used to identify, assess and confidently raise risks and issues, escalate early, and independently engage in constructive credible challenge.
  • Working knowledge of the Company’s governance frameworks including Risk Management Framework concepts and policies across risk types.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high performing teams in a matrixed environment, ensure proper staffing and expertise exists and can coach and enable others in risk and control management.
  • Expert-level Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint) skills with the ability to conceptualize, develop, and deliver quality analysis and highly-actionable information to senior level executives.

Job Expectations

  • Onsite presence is required 3 days a week at one of the posted locations

Pay Range

$173,300.00 - $359,900.00
