As a Commercial Underwriter at Understory, you will be at the forefront of an innovative venture, wielding our proprietary hyperlocal climate risk engine to reshape the future of insurance. Your pivotal role in accurately assessing and pricing risk will contribute significantly to the creation of sustainable insurance products.
In our dynamic, flexible, and collaborative environment, you will work alongside a team of experts in weather and climate, insurance, data science, technology, and R&D. Your strategic insights and decision-making skills will play a crucial role in supporting our clients' severe weather risk mitigation efforts.
Your main role responsibilities will include:
- Directing the assessment, underwriting, and pricing of complex commercial insurance risks
- Guiding the review of insurance applications to accurately gauge the degree of risk involved
- Steering the development of innovative underwriting strategies to achieve business growth and profitability
- Collaborating closely with sales, customer service, and senior management teams to manage, retain, and grow our client base
You're exactly the leader we're looking for if you:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field
- Have a minimum of 3 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a track record of managing large accounts (property experience is a plus)
- Demonstrate advanced analytical, decision-making, and leadership skills
- Have an in-depth knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and market trends
- Possess outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
- Are highly organized, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and lead a team
