Job Summary
This position exists to tutor students in the Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) Learning Center who need assistance with computer applications including D2L/Brightspace, as well as provide tutoring in the areas of computer science, math, and statistics coursework. This position has knowledge of and assists students in all stages of the learning process, helps maintain the Learning Center, and creates tutoring sessions designed to bolster students' confidence and skills growth in these subject areas. This person also helps the Learning Center by developing and delivering workshops and group tutoring sessions that serve students.
Responsibilities
- Tutor students in the use of D2L/Brightspace, basic computer applications, computer science, statistics, and math at a variety of ability levels so that the students can be as successful as possible in their courses.
- Basic Computer Support and Management: Ensures all Learning Center computers are loaded with appropriate software and applications to meet the needs of students. Software/Applications should be kept up-to-date and in proper working order at all times, which may require close collaboration with Information Technology (IT) and/or the Educational Technology staff. Able to help students with basic computer issues (D2L, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, printing) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic Operations: Collaborate with Learning Center personnel, Math Department faculty, students and other stakeholders to complete other duties as assigned and ensure the smooth functioning of the department and optimal student success in the classroom. Serve on committee and workgroups as appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate orhigher degree in Math AND 1 academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in a Math related discipline at the high school level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Math, Computer Science or Computer Applications.
- Strong background and knowledge of basic math through Calculus and Statistics.
- Ability to present teaching materials to students in the Learning Center and assist student in understanding the concepts in an independent manner.
- Communication skills sufficient to effectively explain concepts and procedures to students so that they are easily understood.
- Ability to present material in both one-on-one and group settings.
- Ability to develop and present workshop for students and/or faculty on topics of need.
- Ability to review learning center processes and recommend revisions.
- Ability to model and lead others to achieve department goals and provide high quality service.
Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State'svehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
