Job Title: Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid
Department: Student Financial Aid
Classification: Exempt
Grade: 10
FTE/Working Schedule: 1.0


Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid will assist in the coordination and review of Financial Aid applications, packaging and awarding of aid, and the proper distribution of institutional, state and federal funds. Some of the major responsibilities will include coordination of loan processing, advising students about off-campus study expenses, and implementing verification procedures. This position will also interact with and provide counsel to students and families about financing a high-cost college education.


Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and providing oversight for student loan policies and processing. This includes online access with training of staff to interact with agencies providing data and communications.
  • Coordinating verification requirements.
  • Advising students about finances for off-campus studies programs and making appropriate award adjustments to reflect additional assistance.
  • Coordination and training of Student employees in document preparation and review process prior to awarding.
  • Meeting and communicating with students, their parents, campus advisors, and other pertinent constituencies about Financial Aid eligibility, requirements, availability and individual circumstances, where appropriate.
  • Reviewing of Financial Aid applications, including FAFSA and CSS Profile documents.
  • Understanding and interpreting the FM and IM need analysis computations.
  • Assisting in formulation and implementation of College Financial Aid policies. Using these policies in a uniform and standard manner, while applying professional judgments for exceptions in appropriate situations.
  • Using PowerFAIDS and other technologies to communicate effectively. This includes development of electronic office processes for current and future use.
  • Understanding and interpreting rules and regulations requirements for federal and state awarding.
  • Representing Carleton’s Student Financial Aid Office at outreach functions and selected professional meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned and required by the Director.

Education/Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and have at least 5 year’s experience in an administrative, counseling or student services office at a college setting. Must be able to work independently, communicate effectively and be motivated to assist students and their families in affording a high-cost college education.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
