Identify and contact businesses and individuals who owe taxes and other debt to the State of Ohio and arrange for payment of these debts. The job requires correspondence with debtors, telephoning debtors, arranging payment plans, negotiating settlements (with the approval of the Office of the Ohio Attorney General) and working with attorneys regarding the collection efforts and related litigation.
This position requires the ability to communicate with debtors in a persuasive, empathetic and non-argumentative manner to elicit accurate information to facilitate the collection process. Accurate record keeping and the ability to analyze financial information are required. Familiarity with collection rules and regulations; especially the FDCPA is preferred (or will be developed with on-the-job training).
A minimum of a high school education or equivalent is required. Mathematical skills, computer skills, familiarity with Excel, financial forms, and experience with Client View, Collections Pay Portal, Cubs/The Collector System are a plus.
