***$15,000 Sign on Bonus

Summary of Position/Objective:

The Training and Development Nurse develops and provides the skilled and unskilled service training needs to employees who support individuals with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and/or mental illness. This position will also provide compassionate skilled nursing care on an intermittent basis to patients in their homes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Adheres to and upholds To The Rescue’s values and policies.
  • Develop training protocols for all medical and semi-medial homes in the TTR organization
  • Provide skilled and unskilled training of these protocols to employees supporting members with tracheostomy cares, colostomy cares, ostomy cares, wound cares, medication management, seizure supports, etc.
  • Provides required training paperwork that meets guidelines as outlined by governing bodies.
  • Performs ongoing audits of on-the-job care by the Human Services staff and provides any retraining needed.
  • Provides services in accordance with the plan of care.
  • Makes the initial evaluation visit and regularly evaluates the patient's nursing needs.
  • Initiates the plan of care and necessary revisions.
  • Furnishes those services requiring substantial specialized nursing skills.
  • Initiates appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures.
  • Provide service coordination with internal and external stakeholders to support member care needs.
  • Informs physician and other personnel of changes in the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Participates in in-services programs, supervising and teaching other nursing personnel.
  • Completes documentation timely to ensure billing of services.
  • Ensures all medical support needs and ongoing supports needs are provided as stated in the members plan.
  • Attends training seminars, in-service sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Honors all aspects of the Member Rights and adhere to all policies of confidentiality.
  • Always represents To The Rescue in a positive and professional manner to all members, co-workers, interdisciplinary teams, and the general public.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Competencies/Qualifications/Education:

  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing

  • Current RN license to practice in the State of Iowa
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and provide instruction and direction to employees on maintaining compliance with policies, rules and procedures.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Have working knowledge of privacy laws and regulations.


Certificates/Licenses/Registration:

The employee shall possess a valid driver’s license and must be eligible for the agency’s vehicle insurance and provide proof of private vehicle coverage.

Work Hours:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday with shifts that meet business needs with occasional nights and weekends.

Work Environment:

The work environment is variable, from office settings, hospital/clinics, to out in the community. Will require frequent trips to residential settings to support employees working in housing.

  • While performing these duties, the employee is frequently required to speak and hear.
  • While performing these duties, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle daily tasks.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach, bend, squat, stoop and kneel.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to type and operate computer controls.
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employees will frequently push or pull items.
  • Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Travel:

Frequent travel within a 25-mile radius is expected for this position. Occasionally travel beyond a 25-mile radius may be required.
