Organization Overview:

The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960 and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves a diverse population of families at all stages of family life by offering a variety of programs that address a broad range of issues and concerns. The faculty at the Institute have achieved national prominence and earned national awards for the development of innovative approaches to family therapy and professional training.

Position Summary:

This position of Clinic Therapist was created in order to provide mental health services for families with school aged children in communities that are underserved in New York. This therapist will be reporting to the Clinic Supervisor and Outreach Program Coordinator. Clinic Therapists are responsible for providing therapeutic services to families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family’s New York State Office of Mental Health, Article 31 Clinic. In addition to skills in Family Therapy, the qualified candidate will be fluent in discussing race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization. The Clinic Therapist is also expected to work collaboratively, and provide clear, clinical documentation in a timely manner. Must hold a current and valid license to practice mental health independently in the state of New York.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide weekly family therapy for the Institute both in person and remotely.
  • Collaborate with outreach coordinator.
  • Provide a minimum of 10 sessions per week.
  • Maintain up-to-date, timely, electronic chart records that include treatment plans and session notes.
  • Must be available for clinical supervision for 2 hours a month, held bi-weekly.
  • Must be available to work evening hours and possibly Saturdays.
  • Participate in Utilization Reviews.
  • Must be able to conduct tele-therapy.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have extensive clinical experience in Family Therapy and trauma informed clinical work.
  • Applicants trained through the Ackerman Institute’s Clinical Externship program are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Must have 3+ years’ experience working with school aged children (12 to 18 years), as well as their family members, from overburdened NYC school and community agency partners.
  • Advanced knowledge of impacts of trauma, including complex trauma.
  • Must hold a current and valid license to practice mental health independently in the state of New York such as LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, or licensed psychologist.
  • Must be well versed in issues related to race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization. · Knowledge and application of the Ackerman Relational Approach and/or Family Therapy theories.
  • Experience in social service setting with working knowledge of case management systems and planning techniques is preferred.
  • Bilingual required, in English/Spanish.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be hybrid, based out of our office in New York, NY.
  • This position will require you to dedicate 12-15 hours per week.

Compensation:

  • $75.00/hour

COVID Requirements:
