About the role
What you need to know:
The Casualty Team Manager in the International Casualty Home Office manages a group of five claims adjusters (Examiners and Senior Examiners) who handle claims for bodily injury and property damage claims under Commercial General Liability policies. These claims include auto accidents, premises liability slip and falls, product failures causing bodily injury or property damage. The successful candidate will need to timely confirm coverage, identify and address any coverage issues, timely and accurately set reserves, determine the appropriate investigation, complete any required reports, evaluate, negotiate and resolve the losses inclusive of attending any mediations or trials at manager's discretion. The team handles USA-based claims for non-US AIG Insureds and also foreign claims under Controlled Master Programs issued to large Multinational US insureds. For those claims located outside the United States the adjuster in the team work with the AIG office or a TPA in the claim location. They may also be required to assist their adjusters conduct Claim Reviews of foreign claims and will be required to present these claims in understandable terms for USA-based Risk Managers.
Responsibilities include the following:
  • Assign new claims to adjusters based on workload and claim skill set.
  • Manage and direct adjusters on complex coverage and liability matters, involving evaluations, establishment of reserves and resolution strategy
  • Review and approve reserves within authority levels, including any needed support documents and grant appropriate settlement authority.
  • Review and approve coverage position letters.
  • Work with international AIG offices on segmenting the flow of claims into the unit.
  • Handle Customer Service demands. Account servicing is a large component of this position, including contact with clients and insureds, coordinating with international claims offices as well as domestic brokers, risk managers and insured's home office representatives. The manager is required to attend relationship and renewal meetings and claim reviews (which may involve travel away from the home office).
  • Recruit, train and mentor claims staff in this team and the whole department.
  • Present to management, provide leadership, mentor staff and identify procedural improvements.

What we're looking for:
  • 10 plus years of Casualty claims experience.
  • Strong Casualty technical expertise in coverage, investigation, reserving and settlement of Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims under Commercial General Liability policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to recruit, train and mentor claims staff.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Customer Service skills and ability to manage relationships with large corporations

For positions based in Jersey City, NJ, the base salary range is $125,600-$157,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
