Job description

THE ROLE
As the Chief Operating Officer of a privately owned, highly profitable rapidly growing group of companies you will be the key operating partner to the Founder/CEO and member of the group leadership team. You will work with the leadership team on global initiatives, managing and driving the portfolio company executives towards success.. . In this role you will focus on company strategy and optimization, heavily geared towards securing a path to a 2.5x annual revenue increase at the group level in the next 12-18 months - ultimately securing the path to a strategic exit in one of the portfolio companies. You will align strategy with the founder, manage members of the portfolio leadership teams, maintain full P and L responsibility, drive definition, implementation and success of the strategic plan. Your extensive leadership background will help you achieve success in the oversight of sales, marketing, operations, finance, talent, legal, GR, global expansion, regulatory, tax and corporate development. You will work with and engage the various business unit leaders to develop unit strategy cascading into metrics management systems and dashboarding frameworks to measure, manage and consistently improve and drive global portfolio profitability and value creation. With hands on best in class leadership and working through your leaders, you will run and set cadence on all meeting systems of the businesses. Growth strategies will include expansion of POD and VPO in US regulated convenience, enhancements and additions of innovation and ecommerce initiatives, expanding into other channels of trade and global expansion all supported by a progressive vision and regulatory compliance model in a rapidly growing category.
Your previous experience at group level in multi-brand, multi-business regulated CPG categories will allow you to see and understand the big picture and the clear path to success. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Development of capitalization and exit strategy including a strategic exit US CPG (500m-1b)
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and advisors to build and align all components of the business to support and enable high value strategic exit
  • Full P& L responsibility to grow EBIT, Cash Flow and strength of the balance sheet
  • Enhance profit by strategic capital allocation into initiatives that drive both top and bottom line that exceed ROI hurdles.
  • Identifying and executing possible M&A targets to support rapid and expansion of BU's.
  • Develop, maintain and embed cohesive organizational wide understanding, alignment, and motivated mobilization, to a shared vision and strategy.
  • Leadership of strategic planning and supporting meeting structure across the portfolio of companies, including managing sessions with BU leader teams, optimization of processes and accountability for timeline and outcome compliance.
  • Grow Create, implement, and track quarterly, annual, and multi-year strategic plans with the Founder/CEO and executive leadership team ensuring goal completion across all business units
  • Lead, align and drive talent acquisition and in a hands-on manner which acquires highly skilled and motivated people to executive complex highly profitable strategy in a high pace environment
  • Retaining and developing talent and organizational competencies across the organization to support strategic delivery and growth.
  • Refine and drive the performance management system in a hands-on manner with a "Navy Seals not Navy" model of high skill high ownership specialist tracked execution model.
  • Lead, expand and develop, as needed, the executive leadership team currently consisting of senior leaders in Finance, Sales, Marketing, Legal, Operations, Talent
  • Oversee key cross functional projects such as ERP, Exit alignment and value maximization, Global expansion, new product development and innovation, and regulatory risk reward analysis.
  • Develop and expand corporate systems to support smooth operations and improve execution, profitability, and reduce risk in high rate of change environment
  • Collaborate with the founder to conceptualize new business opportunities and establish profitability.
  • Review and analyze programmatic investment areas to select and successfully implement high reward opportunities.
  • Working closely with GC, identifying and navigating all legal risks while developing mitigation strategies to hedge/reduce risk on a wide variety of parameters.
  • Working with GC to align on all legal requirements across organizations.
  • Establish and oversee enterprise auditing procedures to maintain asset security.

REQUIREMENTS
  • MBA or business equivalent degree
  • +8 years of experience as COO/GM in a hyper growth multi-business organization with revenue between 100M and 1 B with multi-business segments. Complex corporate structure experience is a plus.
  • Successful experience building to exit
  • +5 years working with, and reporting directly to founders / entrepreneurs with a list of highly favorable references from entrepreneurial leaders
  • +20 years experience in a CPG regulated category in US convenience, grocery, alternative and or natural channel
  • exponential, profitable growth
  • +At least 15 years of managing multi business P&L/budgets and teams across a wide range of industries in parallel
  • Must thrive in fast paced, rapid change, hypergrowth environments, ideally with experience of >5% growth per month 100%+ per year
  • Deep track record of working with highly entrepreneurial leaders to create
  • Experience expanding the company foot-print and driving sales into new countries
  • Global tax management and/or experience
  • Strong demonstrated capabilities of successfully leading teams virtually, including offshore structures
  • Extensive experience participating in and leading finance, legal and people functions of corporate capitalization strategies including; IPO, Sale, JV, etc
  • Extensive experience with leading and advancing strategy and linking with operational systems (EOS, RH HABITS, OGSM, OKR etc.)
  • Business portfolio management including; integrated budgeting, dashboard creation and management, organizational development, CXO recruiting and optimization
  • Highly capable hands on leader with strong proficiency with remote work technology and all major business tools (highly tech savvy)
  • Previous experience managing systems/ERP implementation and development across business life cycles including creating integrated systems
  • Previous leadership of the people function in high growth environments including leadership development, talent acquisition and human capital systems
  • Extensive success in strategic planning and performance management experience, with a track record of measurable KPI driven achievements (personal and team) and high portfolio delivery.
  • Strong track record of turning vision into executable strategy, and communicating the same.
  • Very strong references, which you reported to, that support your suitability for this role.
  • Highly developed EQ and emotional resiliency
  • Very strong drive, with a high level of self-motivation

Bonus points
  • Highly proficient with and previous experience managing legal including intellectual property, litigation, contacts law, employment, product sales and compliance in regulated industries EG medtech, dietary supplements, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, cannabis
  • Experience working with or managing government relations on state or federal legislature
