Job Description:
Provides the leadership, management and vision to ensure Centerstone operations have the necessary operational controls, resources, and systems in place to effectively grow the organization, ensure clinical excellence and access to care, provide high quality customer service, and support ongoing financial strength and operating efficiency. Responsibilities include: routine financial and service analysis and reporting; coaching and developing operations leaders and service line leaders statewide; monitoring key performance indicators across the organization; and leading and supporting the overall mission and vision of Centerstone's development as a health system. As part of Centerstone's team-oriented philosophy, the COO is expected to actively participate in variety of cross-organizational teams and performance improvement initiatives and to positively influence organizational culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides day-to-day leadership, management and coaching to support the noble purpose and evolution of the organization. Ensures all levels of leadership are mentored, supported and guided in their day to day clinical and administrative duties.
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of clinical and internal/external customer service processes. Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on service and financial outcomes of the organization to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Prepares monthly financial review; actively monitors staffing levels and engages appropriately with direct reports and HR to ensure appropriate staffing is achieved to meet clinical and financial goals. Develops annual budget in consultation with CEO and Finance.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team across the organization to develop and implement plans and changes for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the organization. Supports change objectives positively and leads teams through the change process effectively to achieve desired results.
  • Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment within the organization. Assists in the preparation of short term and long-range operational plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives. Appraises the organization's position and issues periodic operating reports.
  • Represents the organization with consumers, funders, and strategic business partners.
  • Provides accurate, constructive feedback to staff on an ongoing and timely basis. Sets operational KPIs annually. Provides minimum of monthly supervision/development to direct reports and documents performance, KPI and development feedback on development note. Meets more frequently with staff needing additional direction or support.
  • Ensures annual staff development process and reviews all plans for improvement by deadlines. Incorporates an awareness of staff wellness and burnout prevention into all aspects of this leadership role.
  • Selects, evaluates, counsels, and trains staff. Offers remedial training and education to staff and applies discipline when indicated in a timely manner after seeking consultation with Human Resources and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Works with clinical leaders to ensure a culture where treatment is recovery focused and trauma informed; ensures ongoing clinical training and development; and implements Centerstone evidence based models; seeks support from appropriate Centerstone leaders to ensure clinical excellence. Ensures any state or federal grants achieve stated goals and outcomes.
  • Interfaces effectively and positively with organization-wide administrative services. Includes: IS, IT, Quality, HR, Payroll, Marketing & PR, Finance.
  • Takes initiative to prevent and resolve problems and offers recommendations for improving services and transforming Centerstone into an organization that embraces clinical excellence, supports staff in removing barriers, and offers excellent customer service internally and externally. Displays professionalism and engages appropriately with staff and others when problem solving. Open to feedback from direct reports and organizational executives.
  • Participates in professional and/or community activities that promote the behavioral health and wellness of all clients/families as well as the positive reputation of the organization.
  • Attends staff meetings other internal meetings to develop employe engagement and ensure leadership is viewed positively across the organization. Participate on committees as assigned, including quality assurance functions. Maintains appropriate communication with other employees and work as an effective member of various teams.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practices.
  • Knowledge of integrated care and related practices.
  • Knowledge of compliance issues, including HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of managed care practices.
  • Knowledge of budgetary and management theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of rules, statutes, codes, and regulations regarding impacting the organization.
  • Knowledge of proper licensure and accreditation requirements from various funding sources.
  • Knowledge of grant-writing techniques and styles, and various marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of personnel regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and statistics.
  • Skill in change management.

Education Level
Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or other Human Services related discipline
Years of Experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience required.
  • Five (5) years prior supervisory/ management experience required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in behavioral health or healthcare management, business, finance and/or human resources strongly preferred.

Certification/Licensure
  • May be a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts and licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as an LCSW or LCPC.
