Caseworker III's supervise professional and paraprofessional caseworkers and contract employees (peer support specialist) and perform a variety of administrative duties in support of a Community Assistance Program (CAP), Behavioral Health (BH), and Crisis Response (CR) units. CAP assists community members who have experienced a traumatic event, behavioral health, or substance use crisis. BH and CR units/teams respond from a designated location within the City of Phoenix to 9-1-1 calls for service as a co-response unit with fire or police personnel, single unit response, and completing in-person follow-up. Team members complete assessments of needs as well as danger to self (DTS) or danger to others (DTO), utilize motivational interviewing, determine eligibility for social services, identify barriers to services, provide short-term counseling and short-term case management, and transportation to a higher level of care facilities or social service agencies.
Successful candidates work in tandem with other supervisors, work across organizational lines, and work in harmony with team members. They also possess good client engagement and de-escalation skills, respond to high-level referrals efficiently, resolve customer concerns diplomatically, and can work in a highly independent role making sound decisions per regulations and established agency policies and procedures. This program is currently expanding to 10 Crisis Response units and 9 Behavioral Health units. Work includes direct supervision of employees, oversight of CR/BH responses, completion of yearly performance evaluations, occasional crisis response or behavioral health unit coverage, assessment of community members' needs, supervision of master-level interns, and report writing.
Several Caseworker III positions will fill the role of intake and dispatching of behavioral health units. These positions will work within the Fire Department Regional Dispatch Center and will receive calls from Phoenix Police Communications requesting a behavioral health unit. This role may require long times of sitting, speaking on the phone, the ability to assess an individual over the phone and typing information quickly and accurately into the Computer Automated Dispatch (CAD) system.
The Supervisor position is a shift work position, which may require non-traditional work hours, including working nights, holidays, and weekends. Shift assignments include 8-hour days for 5 days a week or 10-hour days for 4 days a week. The Supervisor position requires that employees bid every year for assigned shifts. Shift assignments are based on seniority. In addition, this position will act as the on-call supervisor, as assigned.
CAP Supervisor shifts: (8 or 10 hours)
- 1st shift hours include: 0500-1300 (5 AM to 1 PM) or 0800-1800 (8 AM to 6 PM)
- 2 nd shift hours include: 1300-2100 (1 PM to 9 PM)
- 3 rd shift hours include: 2100-0500 (9 PM to 5 AM) or 1800-0400 (6 PM to 4 AM)
Behavioral Health Dispatcher shifts: (10 hours only)
- 1 st shift hours include: 0500-1500 (5 AM to 3 PM) or 1000-2000 (10 AM to 8 PM)
- 2 nd shift hours include: 1500-0100 (3 PM to 1 AM)
- 3 rd shift hours include: 2000-0600 (8 PM to 6 AM)
Currently, there are several vacancies in the CAP. The department is now hiring for full-time and part-time positions. Part-time candidates must commit to a minimum of 20 hours.
IDEAL CANDIDATE

- Crisis intervention, behavioral health, and/or substance use work experience.
- Ability to work with or supervise peer support specialists with life experience.
- Ability to adjust quickly to change, open to working with first responders, individuals with lived experience, and other professional entities.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, create and maintain a positive work environment that encourages input and feedback from those being supervised.
SALARY
Pay Range: $57,179 to $107,806 annually.
Hiring Range: $57,179 to $76,627 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of case management or counseling experience in a recognized social service agency, including some lead or supervisory experience.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, business, or related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field, is preferred.
- Arizona behavioral health licensure (LAC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW).
- Three years of experience in behavioral health, peer support, and/or substance use.
- Two years of previous experience supervising full-time staff and volunteers.
- Experience:
- Providing customer service to a diverse population.
- Providing crisis intervention to a vulnerable population.
- Developing resources and/or working with community partners.
- Determining eligibility for social services within a federally funded program.
- Building, coordinating, and maintaining community and agency partnerships.
- Gathering information, and statistics, completing case note documentation, and report writing.
- Intermediate computer proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficiency in Spanish or other language in addition to English, desired though not required.
