Department Summary
Peralta Service Corporation (PSC), a nonprofit social enterprise, was established in 1975 as a social enterprise subsidiary of The Unity Council. After a period of dormancy, the subsidiary was revived in 2000 and began operating a successful commercial property maintenance program and neighborhood ambassador program. PSC currently employs approximately 50 adults and performs contract-based services for public and private entities.
PSC’s programming focuses on recruiting low-income workers with barriers to self-sufficiency, supporting their development of employability and vocational skills, connecting them to community resources and stability supports, and coaching them through their search for good, permanent employment. As a nonprofit organization, ownership is public and ultimately lies in community stakeholders, rather than investors. Therefore, any profits generated by PSC are reinvested in the company and used to strengthen the social enterprise.
