Job Description
Develops partnerships and opportunities for at risk In-School and Out-of-School Santa Monica Youth, ages 14-24 years old, to learn fundamental workplace skills through placement in well-supervised paid work experience.
- Conducts orientations for youth in accordance with program requirements of the Santa Monica Program and Work Base Learning Program.
- Facilitates 20 hours of soft skills training workshop that introduces youth to the World of Work and viable career pathways.
- Ensures that bi-weekly timecards are accurate, complete, and submitted to processed for payment with the payroll/finance department.
- Must meet weekly, quarterly, and yearly program goals.
- Updates agency database, Upload eligibility documents to the work base learning portal and provides youth tracking reports to management and other agency data base portals.
- Will work directly with youth identified as “at-risk” and “high risk” youth high needs ages 14 – 24 years of age.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently to reach Agency stated objectives and goals.
- Attends all County mandatory trainings. Required to travel to Virginia Park and/or other JVS SoCal managed offices and JVS SoCal’s corporate office as needed.
- Will represent the Agency at public events and be open to working some evenings and weekends.
- Will conduct cold calls and develop new worksites interested in hiring enrolled youth through our paid work experience.
- Facilitates Los Angeles Performance Partnership Pilot (LAP3) meetings for the West LA AJCC.
- Will prepare the youth and to refer them when they are ready to WIOA for placement assistance.
- Will provide youth progress notes and data for case files.
- Performs other record keeping and participant youth case file management including case file compliance, case notes, performance outcomes, activities, supportive services, incentives, stipends, and participant youth paid work experience payroll.
- Facilitates individual assessment, case planning; vocational/educational activities, and outcomes planning; Implement individual service plans (ISP).
- Develops Individualized Employment Plan (IEP) and Individual Service Strategy (ISS)
- Facilitate additional programs and duties designed by Division Deputy Director or Operations Manager to achieve success of programs and meet JVS-SoCal mission. Other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for cultivating worksites for-profit and non-profit relationships with employment hiring departments to place youth candidates in paid work experience.
Must have passion to work and connect with youth. Experience building successful working relationships with a diverse group of youth. Ability to research, process and organize a variety of information applicable to youth services. Ability to work in a team environment and independently, meet deadlines, meet performance, and encourage others to excel. Experience working with diverse communities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail in documentation. Occasional work assigned for evenings and weekends.
· AA in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field, or 60 units of college credit, or equivalent experience. At least 1 year of related working experience with high-risk, at risk, probation, foster care, and/or low-income youth and/or parents.
· Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
· Proficiency in Window/Microsoft Office environment.
· Can Do Attitude. Ability to troubleshoot. Positive attitude.
· Experience making cold calls and developing new job leads for youth.
· Experience with group facilitation, group presentations and case management.
· Sensitivity and awareness for youth culture, diversity, and youth inclusion concepts including the principles and practices of youth development.
· Experience working with youth and/or young adults in an education, workforce, or social service setting.
· Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalogs, Mandarin, or Farsi, preferred.
· Work at Virginia park two to three times a week 10:00 am to 7:00 pm 2200 Virginia Avenue, Santa Monica CA 90404 and West LA AJCC 5446 Sepulveda Blvd Culver City CA 90230 two to three times a week 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some weekends depend on the need of program.
