The Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust (BHMT) is a Taft-Hartley Education Trust established by Kaiser Permanente and union representatives of its Alliance and Coalition represented workforce. It is dedicated to support life-long learning and its individual members' career management. As such, BHMT offers a portfolio of diverse programs to support eligible union employees throughout their Kaiser Permanente career journey including:
- Comprehensive Career Development Coaching including Assessments, Exploration, Goal Setting, Education and Training, Job Change, and Career Management
- Career Coaching, Certifications, Degrees, Skills, Continuing Education, Financial Assistance, and Laptop Lending
BHMT works closely with Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) National Workforce Planning and Development Department and its Regional counterparts to constantly adapt and expand Trust offerings to meet the needs of both our management and labor union partners as well as those of the individual participant. The purpose of Career Development is to empower clients to effectively drive their own professional development by providing personalized, confidential, and professional coaching during all facets of their career journeys.
DESCRIPTION
The Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust (BHMT) seeks experienced Career Development Coaches to provide a breadth of career coaching to our participants. Under the direction of BHMT’s Director of Career Development, coaches are the front-line representatives of the Trust and are our participants’ primary guide to the complete portfolio of programs and educational benefits available to them through the Trust and KP. Career Development Coaches share the responsibility with all other BHMT staff to promote and adhere to workplace guiding principles (Teamwork, Diversity, Service Focus, Life-Long Learning, Innovation, Integrity, Supportive, Resilience).
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Percentage allocations are approximate and may be adjusted at any time.
Career Coaching 85%
- Provide Career Development Coaching in person, over the phone, via email or video conferencing to Kaiser Permanente employees eligible to receive BHMT benefits via individual/group sessions as part of either stand-alone coaching sessions or as part of a coordinated long-term Trust program, including but not limited to:
- Administer and interpret a range of career assessment instruments according to the client’s individual needs.
- Support clients in managing transitions in career direction and/or career mapping.
- Work with partner organizations to develop client education/skill-building plans.
- Assist client interface with KP resources and opportunities.
- Design and deliver webinars related to professional growth, job readiness, engaging in academic activities, skill-building, and other related topics.
Client Engagement 10%
- Support outreach efforts and events as needed by promoting BHMT programs and services at various events such as Career/Education Fairs, Conferences, Symposiums, New Employee Orientation, KP Staff Meetings, and/other similar events.
- Contribute to Client Experience; identify/quantify drivers, risks, and opportunities for increased client service performance and define solutions to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
- Provide feedback to management on service area trends as represented by our clients.
Stakeholder Relations 5%
- Upon assignment from your BHMT Career Development Director, work in partnership with Regional Workforce Development teams to achieve coordinated client management through Regional Training Programs and Redeployment efforts and/or regional committees while maintaining a consultative role of neutrality between labor and management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Job-Specific Requirements:
- Master’s degree in a discipline involving the study of human behavior, business, or related field preferred
- Minimum of three years post masters experience in career coaching or workforce Development Coaching.
- Demonstrated skills in utilizing technology and current online resources and platforms to communicate and interact with a diverse client population;
- Experience in Career Development theories, and adult learning strategies
- Experience in job change strategies including resume writing, networking, interviewing, etc.
- Preferred: certification and training in career and personality assessments and inventories such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Instrument and Strong Interest Inventory.
- Preferred: Facilitation of small groups
- Preferred Credentials: CCE Board Certified Coach (Designation: Career Coach) or ICF Associate Certified Coach

- Demonstrated skillset in Digital Fluency, Consumer Focus, Collaboration, and Process Improvement;
- Must have discretion and be skilled in dealing with sensitive, confidential, and personal information;
- Must function, contribute and lead in a face-to-face and virtual team environment;
- Must interface effectively with all levels and across organizational lines;
- Excellent customer service skills including excellent follow-through and attention to detail;
- Strong time management, organizational and business presentation skills, as well as oral and written communication skills;
- High level of cultural competencies and experience working with diverse groups;
- Must work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents including KP clients and management, union representatives, vendors, and staff;
- Knowledge and application of Career Development theories;
- Must be committed to continuous, life-long learning and client success;
- Must be able to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
