Summary:
The mission of the Business Development Manager is to be a key contributor to identify and execute organic and inorganic growth opportunities for a variety of businesses in the company’s portfolio.
That portfolio is comprised of in the manufacturing and distribution activities in the lithium, clean energy production, precision optics and automation, specialty chemicals, and lifestyle markets.
To execute this mission, the Business Development Manager will work closely with the Business Development VP and portfolio business teams, as well as interact with external stakeholders such as industry participants, customers, suppliers, and advisors.
This is a great opportunity for an entrepreneurial minded management consultant interested in seeing his/her recommendations through, by participating in the business case buy-in and execution and witnessing first-hand the measurable impact of those growth opportunities recommendations.
The hiring company is a large trading/manufacturing company in Japan and has set an ambitious goal to significantly increase its activities in the Americas. The candidate will be at the center of helping shape the growth ambitions in the Americas.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive research and gather insights/data through primary and secondary sources.
• Formulate hypotheses for growth opportunities and develop strategic recommendations.
• Interact with internal stakeholders, including leadership teams of business divisions, as well as external stakeholders such as customers, industry experts, and partners.
• Attend key trade shows and industry association meetings to network and gather market intelligence.
• Collaborate with the Vice President (VP) to storyboard recommendations and develop implementation plans.
• Explore and evaluate potential partnerships, investments, and acquisitions to drive business growth.
• Take ownership of recommendations and drive them forward, potentially through establishing collaboration agreements or facilitating acquisitions.
Competencies:
• Strong management consulting skills, including ideation, hypothesis formation, effective primary and secondary research, efficient 80/20 synthesis of key information, and competent storyboarding.
• Demonstrated abilities to perform:
o Market assessment: segmentation, size, growth, trends & drivers, competitive assessment and positioning
o Value chain mapping
o Market entry strategy development
o Business case building
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear and convincing articulation, delivering clear presentations structured in a well-organized story supported by facts and figures.
• Persuasive presentations in a variety of settings including senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Good executive presence.
• Experience with digital strategy and product lifecycle management a plus.
Essential Qualifications
• Bachelor degree from a top tier university in the U.S.
• At least 2-3 years of experience at a top-tier management consulting firm in the U.S.
• Native or fluent English language proficiency
• Ability to work in the U.S. without a visa support
