Overview/Risks:
This position will be responsible for the daily administration of the employee health, welfare and retirement plans. Benefit programs include, but are not limited to: 401(K) retirement, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and flexible spending (Section 125) plans. The Benefits Specialist will act as a liaison between employees and insurance providers to resolve benefit related problems and ensure effective utilization of plans and positive employee relations. This position will be responsible in administering the organization's short and long-term leave management, and ADA programs including claim review, filing of claims, reporting and acting as the point of contact for the vendor.
Responsibilities:
- Administer the processing of disability program. Work with the disability vendor in administering the disability and ADA program.
- Communicate with employee, HR Business Partner, and managers regarding disability process and in determining leave eligibility.
- Calculate the accrual rate of PTO and sick time before and after the employee's LOA date.
- Reconcile benefits repayment upon employees return from LOA (Disability and Workers Comp) and advise employee and payroll.
- Collaborate with benefits vendor on setting up the direct billing for employees on LOA (Disability and Workers Comp).
- Collaborate with payroll when updating the employees LOA (Disability and Workers Comp) in PeopleSoft.
- Completes New Jersey wage verification for the disability vendor.
- Coordinate daily benefits processing including enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiary designations, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDRO's, QMCSO's, distributions, loans, and hardship withdrawals.
- Assist the Benefits Supervisor in responding to benefits inquiries. Ensures timely response and quick, equitable, and courteous resolution to any employee issues.
- Support the Benefits Supervisor in the annual audit and compliance testing of the 401K plan. Prepare form 5500 for 401K.
- Responsible for scheduling all benefits related meetings including but not limited to; investment committee meetings, benefits review meetings and all annual enrollment meetings.
- Conducts Benefits new hire orientation.
- Collaborate with vendors in preparation and distribution of informational literature for open enrollment; schedule and facilitate open enrollment presentations for all MTF locations.
- Coordinate the annual preparation of ACA reporting with the vendor.
- Support the Benefits Supervisor in administering the PTO Sharing Program by sending reminder emails to solicit donations. Maintain the PTO Sharing Program bank and monitoring the PTO Sharing Program email on a regular
- basis for any requests for donated PTO.
- Serve as a backup to the HR Specialist in administering the Workers Comp process in the HR Specialists' absence.
- Oversee the administration of ID and restricted access cards for all Edison staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 3 years experience in Benefits Administration
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft HR, Benefits, and Payroll
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, and other applicable laws.
- Demonstrates broad knowledge in the structure of retirement plans and health insurance plans Exhibits solid organizational skills
