Primary Purpose:
To assist and explain the benefit options to district employees. Process enrollments and changes during the year for new and active employees for medical insurance and section 125 cafeteria plan. Process and provide timely notification and communication with employees, supervisors, and insurance carriers regarding workers’ compensation claims.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of administration of employee benefit programs, workers’ compensation program, and applicable laws
- Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency in keyboarding and file maintenance
- Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases and word processing
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years experience in benefits administration, human resources or closely related field
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Workers’ Compensation Administration
- Receive and process accident reports and workers’ compensation claims and file all insurance forms and Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission (TWCC) reports in a timely manner, including wage statements, First Report of Injury, Supplement Report, and job information.
- Establish and maintain contact with injured employees.
- Work closely with campus nurses to facilitate reporting work-related illnesses and injuries.
- Collaborate with the leave coordinator to ensure appropriate use and access to applicable leave benefits.
- Consult with the principal/supervisor if an employee has restrictions to see if they can accommodate.
- Send modified duty letter to principal/supervisor to discuss with employee.
Insurance Administration
- Facilitate all enrollments, changes during the year for new and active employees.
- Schedule open enrollment dates and times with our third party administrator and notify current staff about open enrollment.
- Conduct benefit open enrollment meetings for current staff.
- Conduct benefit enrollment meeting for July new hires.
- Audit and reconcile BlueCross Blueshield (BCBS) medical billing each month.
- Contact BCBS about any errors and send necessary paperwork if needed.
- Follow up until errors have been corrected.
- Scan all benefit documentation into Laserfiche.
- Enroll or make changes on existing employees experiencing life events in the middle of the year in our third party’s system.
- Make all name, address and beneficiary changes in our third party’s system.
- Reconcile the supplemental coverages each month and upload excel file to the third party’s system.
- Determine if we need to go out for bid on our supplemental coverages if rates increase
- Review our Benefits each year to determine if we need to add or change benefit options.
- Notify all employees of any benefit changes or premium changes.
- Complete and submit all disability paperwork for all employees to Standard Life.
- Reconcile 403b and 457 bill each month in Skyward and make any premium changes.
- Keep records of benefit changes on each individual in Skyward.
- Answer questions regarding the MISD Clinic, and add employee’s dependents so that they can utilize the clinic.
- Attorney General notices - Enroll employee’s dependents in medical when receiving medical notifications and report back to Attorney General their medical plan, policy number and effective date.
Other Duties
- Confirm and approve in Laserfiche employee’s requesting a counseling session.
- Request billing quarterly from counseling center
