Tesla's Body-in-White Shop (BIW) uses mostly automated processes for joining together parts to create the shell of the vehicle. Robust tooling is needed to accurately, precisely, locate every part of the vehicle synchronous with PLC logic controlling robotic processes.
The Automation Engineering Technician will assist in all areas of automated equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will maintain and improve standardized work procedures for installation of equipment for automated cells such as Robotics, PLC, etc. Testing automated equipment controls, they will troubleshoot and maintain all controls components such as PLC, safety devices, HMI, servo drives, process hardware and robots.
- Will work directly with the Engineering Team to provide hands-on support for the installation and commissioning of new Robotic Cells
- Interpret wiring diagrams and troubleshoot equipment
- Build and wire industrial electrical cabinets, robotics cell stand up
- Basic drafting of electrical prints in AutoCAD or ePLan
- Physical work including but not limited to pushing, pulling, gripping, twisting, reaching, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years maintaining production equipment, adept with hand tools
- Proficient in reading detailed mechanical/electrical drawings, precise measurements, and tolerance inspection
- Advanced voltmeter skills for AC/DC voltage checks, interpreting electrical schematics in robotics
- Strong grasp of pneumatics (valves, actuators) and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshooting experience with Robot KUKA, FANUC; PLC Siemens knowledge a plus
- Analytical problem-solving, able to lift to 40 lbs., safety-oriented, flexible for shifts, weekends, and holidays
