Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced design and development of automation systems and equipment intended to enhance production efficiency.
- Prepare applicable electronic design drawing and prints.
- Develop and prepared quotations for automation equipment. To include cost evaluation and return on investment (ROI) estimates.
- Provide in-depth machine control programming for automation equipment, including support of existing equipment.
- Strong working knowledge and experience with PLC and HMI programing, robotics, optics, sensors, hydraulics/pneumatics, and other electro-mechanical systems.
- Perform software validation
- Perform software validation and provide written documentation of work instructions/procedures to support instrument qualification (IQ) and operational qualification (OQ) submissions.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting new and existing automation equipment.
- Ensure automation equipment meets all safety and environmental standards.
- Identify and research advancements in processes, equipment, software and hardware to support cost reductions and improve quality and efficiency.
- Ensure documentation is clear, correct, and understandable
- Perform technical support to customers and suppliers through phone communication, written correspondence, and meetings
- Perform technical support to manufacturing, process engineering, automation, and maintenance
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, corrective action formulation, and root-cause investigation
- Provide responsive support to the manufacturing operation
- Prepare interim and final status reports of engineering activities and projects.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
- Four year degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or related field desired
- Two year technical degree required
- Three to five years of practical experience with design and fabrication of automation equipment.
Language Skills:
- Ability to write detailed descriptive correspondence, presentations, and reports regarding operation and explanation of automation related equipment. Ability to effectively present information in small and large group situations to customers, clients, engineering and management staff, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic and advanced mathematics using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to demonstrate and utilize statistical analysis to support decision process. Ability to use geometry, trigonometry, and tolerencing.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply analytical reasoning to complex problems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
- Able to process and organize multiple details into actionable activities and solution
- Ability to use graphs, charts, statistical models and data, and various analytical tools to maximize process efficiencies.
Computer Skills:
- Thorough functional knowledge of computer based systems and networks. Must be able to navigate and use standard Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, project, Access, and PowerPoint)
- Must have a working knowledge of the following software: Solidworks, Autocad, Omron Cx programmer, OVT Framework, NI Vision Builder, Sherlock Vision, and Adept AIM.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and talk or hear. The employee will frequently be required to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to operate production presses in a manufacturing environment. The employee could come into frequent contact with various types of machine oils, lubricants, silicone and latex.
