Description
The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, dynamic, and entrepreneurial individual for an exciting position as Associate Director, Communications and Editorial in its Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC). The Associate Director will form a key part of the team and will work closely with the Senior leadership of the team in an entrepreneurial atmosphere. This position requires cross-collaboration with colleagues in other regional and thematic centers across the Atlantic Council, in particular the position will involve close coordination with the broader Atlantic Council Communications and digital team.
Based in Washington DC, the ideal candidate is a passionate and entrepreneurial self-starter who will lead AALAC's Communications and digital strategy and will oversee the advancement of the Center's written products. As well, the Associate Director will help conceptualize and implement the communications strategy and advance community outreach and engagement. This position will focus on ensuring that AALAC's reach includes critical Latin American and Caribbean policy stakeholders alongside consistently broadening our reach to a new community of global actors to highlight the increasing relevance of the region in a world context. The ideal candidate will grow AALAC's brand, build relationships with journalists, position AALAC experts and our analysis in the media, and increase visibility for the Center's work overall. The ability to operationalize ideas and balance multiple tasks in a fluid environment under time pressure is key to success in the job.
This position is based in our Washington DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $63,000.
Job Responsibilities

• Strategic Communications: Work with the Center's leadership and portfolio leads to advance a cohesive, center-wide communications strategy. Implement the strategy and adjust it using benchmarks, metrics, and other measurements to meet goals.
• Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, media outlets, and influencers in the region. Work with the Atlantic Council's comms team to pitch experts, create tip sheets, draft press releases, track AALAC's presence in media, steward relationships with journalists/ track journalist movement/ convene and help lead monthly brown bag sessions with journalists.
• Editorial: Supervise and oversee the Center's publications, including issue briefs, spotlights and other longer-form reports. On a day-to-day basis, approve and edit email blasts and other external-facing communications.
• Marketing: Coordinate event invitation process and email newsletters, lead subscription campaigns, manage email lists, and grow the Center's reach. Grow and manage the AALAC brand, providing quality control and continuity in its external-facing outreach and visibility. Provide continuity and consistent innovation to how and who AALAC reaches out to for its programming and publications.
• Social Media: Oversee social media strategy and messaging to build a cohesive Center narrative around programming.
• Website: Supervise and guide AALAC project assistants' work on the Atlantic Council's website to ensure it is regularly updated and conforms to AC style, including staff and nonresident fellow bios and media mentions, center and initiative pages, and publication and event pages.
• Talent Management: Oversee the work of communications consultants, coordinate communication activities with partners, and be an active liaison with the Atlantic Council Communications and Digital Team.
• Community Outreach: Work with the Center's leadership to implement digital engagement strategies across a range of platforms and tools. Develop and implement strategies to target donors, decision-makers, local partners, and the media, as well as other important stakeholders in events and activities.
• Data/Metrics: Track data and metrics across all communications channels, and develop best practices based on data analytics, adjusting communications strategies using benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in media relations and/or communications with a focus on Latin America.
• Excellent English-language writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling and engaging content, and a desire to experiment in outreach methods. Strong Spanish-language written and verbal skills.
• Knowledge of Latin American media landscape and familiarity with key journalists and media outlets in the region.
• Proven track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrated experience in advancing communications goals.
• Working knowledge of social media management platforms, such as Sprout Social; digital analytics tools, such as Google Analytics; website management tools, such as WordPress; and marketing tools, such as Marketo. As well, some knowledge of video editing tools.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially with others and with the highest standards of integrity.
