About the role:
Are you looking for a patient-focused, innovation-driven company that will inspire you and empower you to shine? Join Takeda as an Associate Director, Federal Government Affairs located in Washington, D.C. where you will support the strategy for identifying, advocating for and executing on Takeda’s corporate interests for all Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA departments and other Takeda operations in the United States with the legislative and executive branches of the Federal Government to achieve business goals and objectives. As part of the US Business Unit's US Public Affairs team, you will report to the Head, Federal Government Affairs.
How you will contribute:
Lead the development, and execution of tactical plans to influence Congress, the White House, and related agencies to support Takeda identified priorities.
Build and maintain professional networks on behalf of Takeda with elected leaders and other key stakeholders to enable appropriate access to innovative bio-pharmaceuticals with a focus on Takeda’s products and to help position Takeda as a world-class pharmaceutical company.
Support the external engagement of Takeda executives with elected officials and other key stakeholders within and around the Federal Government.
Execute lobbying efforts on behalf of Takeda through the establishment and maintenance of expert, trusted-advisor relationships with Members of Congress, staff, executive branch and federal agency officials.
Executes and coordinates on positions and strategies regarding legislative, policy, political, and regulatory issues impacting Takeda.
Direct and participate in cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to help the company identify risks, as well as opportunities for the commercial, clinical, and other teams.
Provides recommendations to Takeda leadership on appropriate business goals and strategies from federal legislative, executive, and regulatory activities that may have impact on Takeda. Consult with appropriate internal partners in making such determinations, providing recommendations for formulation of action plans.
Identify legislative opportunities that could positively impact business goals. Develop and execute proactive policy and strategic plans to influence legislation and federal agency actions for both corporate and business/product specific initiatives.
Manage day to day Takeda relationships with PhRMA and other trade associations and participate in relevant staff-level work groups in order to advocate for Takeda’s desired objectives.
Increase leadership and business unit understanding of, and participation in, the policy-making and political process on behalf of Takeda.
Collaborate with home office, business units, manufacturing, and BioLife facilities for input on critical issues and involve appropriate executives to advance Takeda’s positions with policymakers.
Manage external lobbyists and consultants to effectively implement Takeda’s legislative, policy, and political strategies.
Advancestrategy to enhance Takeda’s branding and presence with elected leaders and key stakeholders in Washington, DC and throughout the Federal Government.
Partner with state Government Affairs on policy and legislative activities to strengthen resources and enhance Takeda presence with policymakers. Also working in close collaboration with Public Policy & Reimbursement, Therapeutic Policy & Advocacy, Operations, and relevant internal functions.
Collaborate with appropriate USPA colleagues to determine political action committee giving strategy.
Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise
Experienced research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex legislative and regulatory policy documents and translate these into actionable project plans, including some grasp of statistics
Keen understanding of issues affecting pharmaceutical industry as well as rules, regulations, and pharma codes of practice

Aptitude to build strong relationships with national media, thought leaders, and advocacy groups in the pharmaceutical industry

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. JD or master’s degree preferred
5+ year’s experience in public affairs & policy, legal, marketing, or sales with a minimum of 3 years in positions of increasing responsibility and experience in Government Affairs, public affairs, or public policy in pharmaceutical/health care industry.
Demonstrated healthcare experience with Federal/State Legislative and Executive Branch regulatory and administrative processes
Requires approximately 15 % travel; ability to drive to or fly to various meetings, conferences, or client sites, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
