GQ is looking for an Associate Commerce Director to lead the brand's commerce-focused GQ Recommends content across the Sleep, Fitness, and Health categories focusing on product recommendations and service-driven content. This Associate Director will work directly with GQ leadership, cross-functional departments, third party partners, and a team of dedicated writers and editors, to develop, edit, and publish stories on a daily basis and drive performance to meet ambitious revenue growth targets. The role requires strong editing skills and deep familiarity with journalistic best practices in commerce publishing, as well as deep knowledge of search engine optimization. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge and enthusiasm for style as it relates to all GQ coverage categories, especially in the home, sleep, health, and fitness space.
This position will report to GQ's Global Commerce Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Directly oversee all of GQ Recommends' Sleep, Fitness and Health commerce content, working closely with direct reports, freelancers, and data analysts to take content from pitch to publication and meet revenue needs.
- Assign and edit articles, and rigorously fact-check and top-edit GQ commerce content before it is published.
- Management of a high volume of content; responsibility for up to 30 pieces of wellness-related commerce content per week.
- Partner with the Commerce Director, central commerce team, and third-party partners to ensure content is monetized effectively.
- Conceive of and execute special shopping packages on key trends and shopping events (Holiday Gift Guides, Black Friday sales, etc.) that align with the site's business goals.
- Maintain GQ's brand, voice, and aesthetic guidelines across all content and channels.
- Oversee the content distribution strategy, with a solid understanding across site, organic search, newsletter, social media and paid campaigns.
- Understand various analytics metrics, and take action to meet targets as needed.
- Collaborate with the product team and other CN titles to develop the commerce platform, user experience and performance metrics.
- Team leadership and career development of the content and production teams to develop a best-in-class multi-skilled commerce team that successfully blends creativity with business insights.

Skills & Qualifications:
- At least six years of commerce editing experience, including at least three years working on lifestyle and wellness content specifically.
- Experience in service journalism required and specific product recommendations preferred.
- Deep understanding of affiliate and SEO best practices.
- Proven experience managing several editorial staffers at different levels, from top-editing to one-on-one performance feedback.
- An understanding of and enthusiasm for style as it relates to all categories of shopping coverage.
- Ability to produce conversational, approachable commerce stories that are factually accurate, and that motivate and inspire readers.
- Proven track record managing digital editorial lineups of 20-30 high-quality stories per week.
- Strong organizational skills, self-directed work style, and polished communication skills.
Base Salary: $110,000 - $140,000
