Job Description:
Work Location: This position will be located at the Red River Research Station in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Position Description: This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position (70% research/30% extension) emphasizing the food-water-energy nexus, sustainable agricultural practices, or precision agriculture related to production systems commonly found in Louisiana.
The candidate selected for this position will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program that addresses regional and statewide priorities associated with Sustainable Crop Production that may include plant-soil-water interactions, nutrient management, irrigation, drainage, remote sensing, or precision agricultural management to solve on-the-ground agricultural production and climate change issues. The candidate must have primary expertise in best management practices for crop systems, plant growth and development, conducting agricultural field research, and be interested in working at the intersection of crop modeling and precision agriculture. The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate across diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary teams and various state and regional extension specialists and interact with commodity and industry partners to identify, develop, and implement critical research projects and disseminate their results to the agricultural community.
Overall, the candidate is expected to provide leadership and national recognition for independent and collaborative scholarly activity appropriate to their field of expertise. Scholarly and creative outputs, including impactful intellectual works communicated to appropriate audiences, are expected from the faculty in this position; examples include but are not limited to peer-reviewed and extension publications, workshops, field days, and media. Success in obtaining extramural funding will be necessary to support the activities of the position.
The successful candidate will join the LSU AgCenter Red River Research Station in Bossier City, Louisiana, USAThis station is located in the Red River Valley near Shreveport and serves the broad needs of the clientele in northwest Louisiana. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with ongoing regional research/extension programming associated with agricultural water management, including irrigation, drainage, tailwater recovery, and soil health, and with national and international experts on issues of shared interest and importance. While most research should focus on the primary crops of cotton, soybeans, and corn, there will be opportunities for more diverse production systems such as rice, forages, tomatoes, and more. In addition, the position will be affiliated with the appropriate tenure home department and will be expected to fully participate in the school's graduate program serving as a major advisor and on advisory committees for Ph.D. and M.S. students.
Qualification Requirements: A Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, agricultural engineering, or other closely related agricultural field of study is required. Documented training in field crops research and agronomic production practices is critical to the success of the position. Applicants should demonstrate effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills necessary for presentations to various audiences. Important considerations include evidence of extramural grant writing, research activity, and cliental interaction. The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment with research and extension faculty representing other disciplines should be demonstrated.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
